Fifth Element Door Bomb

the property man of the film has always recycled existing objects, I am sure that this key is an electronic printed circuit findable in a kit type Velleman.
this circuit is an two layer for mounting "SMC".

Surface Mount components :

on the right we have two place for connectors.
1 connector 20 pin
1 connector 34 pin (like a floppy connector cable)

i don't think its laughable, its not a bad idea. from memory from working on pcbs years ago i would say the components would be mounted on the other side,

isn't it WDW?

I found a program to create your own PCB and then this company will make it. Sounds easy enough right? I will get started tonight.

maybe so but did you read my last post?

Hi Zorg, yes I did.
I thought I'd try MDM & WDW.
I was hoping to get "lucky" and find a similar card:lol. At least one close in size, shape and coloring. I can desolder the "bits" off the front.

If I had to guess, I would say this PCB board came out of something that was either lying around the prop shop, or was picked up from a junkyard. Although the RPF has had great luck with needle in a haystack searches, I would be absolutely stunned if someone managed to find the right item that this board came from.

If someone does a run of actual PCB boards replicated from the great screeen caps, I would certainly be in for one. It's a genuine z-list prop, but it DID play a role i the plot of the film, and that sort of makes it interesting to me. So put me down for one if someone makes them.

I tried to reconstruct the circuit using the tips visible on the screen.

I'm sure that this circuit is not removed or used in an object, it seems new as a kit to build.

No mark of solder or resin due to solder flux.

No mark of drilling for connectors which seems to be the only components passing through.

Are you making a double-sided board? It's definitely an unused (most likely) existing board designed for surface mount components. The ones that black in color are on the opposite side of the board. The round dots are points where connections are made through the board (thus there's a corresponding dot on the other side of the board for each one).

Assuming the red is one side of the board, and blue is the other in the design program, it looks like the square pattern of dashes just above the MDM is on the wrong side of the board...

Just thinking out loud... Maybe you realize all this already. :)

That would be a great piece of functional propwork. I would use it as a key access for my display room much like a hotel room. Now I can't stop thinking about that.... hmmm.
