bahahahha!! i always thought it looked like i gimp suit at this point. all the rivets and of course the color. hmmm maybe i can start a side business creating "novalty" gimp suits. :lol

ok back to the situation at hand. here are some pics of the forearms and the biceps and how they are riveted together. im sure this would help someone out.

Ouch :eek
Definitely gonna want to clean up or pad those rivits they're lookin like they're gonna hurt. I'm planning to pad my own out with a foam lining (I'm thinking Craft foam but not sure how well it'll protect human flesh from unkind pinching scratching edges). That aside, certainly helpful.

Also, I was reading through another "trashcan armor" type thread on Mandalorian Mercs using sterilite storage tubs that suggested oven baking the plastic at 300 degree for ~2 minutes to get it maleable (depending on the thickness).
Also, bit of a recommendation for some of the "scraps" that are invariably going to exist (including, depending on the style of your can, the curved "lip" of can/bin/container. -You've got to make the finger-armor pieces out of something, why waste plastic?
I know there are methods of doing ity bity rivets, so I can't imagine the cost going up much. Anyone more familiar feel free to correct me though.

i was thinking about this when i test fitted the armor and i had about 30 rivets in various possitions jabbing in to me. the solution that i came up with is foam tape.this stuff http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/caulks-sealants/42200.htm?source=froogle_p . ill be getting that and either cutting tiny squares to cover the rivets on the inside or using strips for parts like the arms and legs.. plus ill be getting a red under armor long sleeve (or the walmart equivalent) to wear under.

MOST excellent idea for the finger armor! we will see what i can come up with. i have about 6 rims id hate to waste. Thanks!:thumbsup

Love this thread! Definitely going to have to give this a shot in the near future.

About what size are the garbage cans that you have been buying quake? If you've mentioned and I've missed it I apologize.

How Much Would It Cost To Build A Real Iron Man Suit?

http://io9.com/5533077/how-much-would-it-cost-to-build-a-real-iron-man-suit

I think they over judge these types of projects I think if one person can build it and get a idea behind supply costs and already had the equippment I doubt it would cost near that much but to build a shop and lab needed to design and to build the suits would be the real cost factor and labor works and designers, but get one smart SOB to pick up most of the work and I think you could get the slimmer buget together.

I've been getting some requests regarding War Machine. I'm going on vacation next week. While I'm relaxing I'm going to make all the templates for a trashcan WarMachine. I'm going to do everything but the helmet. The following week I'll start the build, so a War Machine tutorial will be coming soon. All the templates will be unrestricted and available. kidUltron, tk1055, and others are doing a great job with the Mark V, so I'm going to abandon my Mark V for now and do a slower War Machine build than my Mark V, which was just a quick build to make a tutorial.

I have to say thank you for all this work. My buddy and I are planning to make matching War-Machine and IM costumes over the summer. We were still on the fence of how exactly to do this. I really like this method and from what I've seen here, this seems like a really good idea, has my vote anyway.

Please let everyone know about the War-Machine build and I'll be reading furiously.

Thx-
P.S. IF this costume build gets me laid at a Con/Party/Saving a cat from a tree, I'll send you a thank you card with a check for 8 dollars like your grandma sends:)

Seriously though, great work on the budget build everyone! I never would have considered such a thing, but now... :)

Spoken like a true nerd! :lol

If that is what you are trying to get out of an iron man costume bro...might want to reconsider putting funding to something else...lol...just saying...

Hey, I love making things, crafting things, but an awesome suit of armour doesn't hurt when trying to get down.

And, let's be honest, isn't that what tony stark really wanted, aside from the not being killed by militants?

And who doesn't get a ridiculous check from their GMom on their birthday or Christmas? man.....
