Fellow RPF'er Volpin Made it to MAKE: with Bioshock Big Daddy Costume

That is an AWESOME costume. Did he use a hand drill for the spinning arm attachment?

That is out of this world (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Love the build up, that's amazing work, I really wish I could have been there to see that.

That is incredible...and easily the best Big Daddy costume I've seen. I clicked on this thread not expecting much...but that to me, looks like it's just come out of the game! Great costumes all round!!!

It was really impressive in person too.

My favorite part was in the Masquerade when he started up the drill.
Just about the whole place cheered. Then it started to get caught in the friend's costume and pull it off a little. No harm done, just a quick scare.

I've been watching his progress on his flickr page and when he posts on the /cgl/ board on 4chan. Awesome job as usual

Totally amazing build, Must weigh a ton to wear ?

Brother, truer words were never spoken.

The whole thing weighs about 50-60 pounds with the arms attached. Typically, I would remove them for walking around the hotels (both for space restrictions as well as comfort) so thats why you'll probably see a bunch of shots of an armless Big Daddy.

As I said in my blog, its not 100% yet, but we were in a time crunch for D*C. I need to add lights as well as some padding to the limbs to fill things out more. Also, there were some damages to the suit at the convention (he doesn't fit in elevators so well) that need to be repaired.

Emily (my fiancee and "little sister") and I want to do a photoshoot at the Ga Aquarium before the suit goes into hibernation for a while. Any chance someone here has the connections to make that happen?

A couple of my favorite pics, just for good measure:

*****....WOW!:eek

That is definitely in the top 5 or maybe 3 coolest things ever posted on this board. Just speechless....incredible job!:thumbsup

...^and yes, the whale type sounds the Big Daddy makes would be the cherry on the sundae for this costume!

Yeah my family was back stage for our kids to be in Masquerade (Ewok/Leia mom and Jedi/Tusken dad - me) and that Bioshock costume was amazing! The three of them kept acting out their parts and the drill really worked - just a little too much - he couldn't see her when he hit her. Totally Awesome - two large parts to suit - I almost stepped on it on accident or bumped it when Tusken helmet on and lining up kids to go on stage... Felt really bad but could not see myself - son had to lead me around (There is always a 3 feet diamter blind spot around me unless I look directly down thru eye tubes). Anyway - GREAT costume and skit they did!

Easily the best thing I saw at D-Con. It was awesome until the drill actually started. At that point it became legendary.

That's insanely brilliant!

I'm not into computer games at all, but Bioshock seems to have a great style and concept to it.

Is it being made into a film? They should get Jeunet and Caro of Delicatessen and City of Lost Children to do it.
