nice! Thanks for that! The fact thqat the blade is custom ground is a bit annoying but that is indeed it.

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I think we have a match. Glad to be of use. Best part is if you follow the link, the knife is only 12 bucks so hell at that price, if you frak up the blade, nbd.

there are quite a few on ebay too, and ones with black handle but colored lastic buttons, which ius easier to paint black than the rubber grip.

I don't know, that handle, and the sheath do look good, but I have seen knives with blades like the screen used one before. It might be an older model, or another model in the same line, or they could have transplanted a blade from another knife. But hey the price if right. :)

I always have an ever growing pile of props I'm working on (and so few of them have gotten to the finished point. :() Lately I've just been piling on the Farscape project, partly because I've had Farscape fever for the last few months, and partly because It's winter here in ohio, and way to cold to paint out side (the only place I have to paint) So it will probably be a few months before I get a chance to paint my new projects so why not pile them on. :lol

Anyway's I was looking over my pile of Farscape props today, to see what I have done, and what I have left to do, and My eyes fell on my Stark mask. I got Kylash's original Fiberglass buck, but I've been trying to get it Vacuumformed for years (and years) now. (I would guess at least 3 or 4 years now) I keep getting offers that are either WAY too expensive, or they offer to do it on the cheep, but then they back out, because their table doesn't work, or something like that. (I haven't got either kind in a wile.) I bout some styrene, and thought I was going to get it done, at the Indiana prop party last spring, but they ended up not setting up the table for a demonstration after all. :(

Anyway's, to make a very long story shot, I am still looking for someone to do a vacuumform or two of my stark mask. I would be willing to pay a little bit for it (plus the cost of the plastic of course), and/or I could send some plastic with the mask, or I may be willing to trade the make (buck) for a couple good vac forms of it. (then you could sell other copies, or do a run, or something.) Or if you live in the Columbus Ohio area, and you would like to get together to look it over, and see what you think, just let me know. :)

Just thought I would put it out there, I would really like to finally get this thing done.

How big is it? I've got a small vacctable, the pull surface is only 9.25x7.5 but IIRC Stark's mask isn't very big. I'd be willing to give it a shot. :thumbsup

I'm afraid is about 9.5 by 8.75 (roughly.).

There are some pics of it, in the first page of this thread.

I did have some one offer to do a couple copies in resin, but I think Vacuum forming would be better for this. The Vacuum forming would allow it to flex just a little If I want to wear it (more then resin I think), and it might have a little more uniformed thickness then resin would. (though I could be very wrong. ) Plus, I saw Kylash's finished Vacuum formed version, and it looked really good.

Back to the knife talk for a minute. I was looking through the rest of the screen caps that JD has up for this knife. I noticed, that wall it looks like Aeryn has the same type (make, and model) knife strapped to her arm, when she goes mountain climbing, in the princes series of episodes, it looks like the large whole we see drilled in the scabbard, in the other episodes, is not there. Do we see the blade at all in that episode? Maybe they didn't modify the blade on that version. (that would be nice.)

Also, if you do decide to modify the blade, and your uncomfortable about doing it yourself, a lot of the nicer knife shops will grind it out for you. I've taken in pics of prop knives, into the shop I used to go to (years ago) and showed them, and they would always help me find the knife that was close enough, and then grind out the difference. :) (some times for free. :) Though I'm guessing a job this tough, might cost at least a little something. )

Oh, and I know if those colored parts of the grip of the knife are rubber, or rubber coated, paint wont really stick to them, but what about Ink? Something like really dark black ink. like India ink? Maybe brush it on pretty heavy, and let it set.

I saw the pic above showing that they do make a version with a black handle, and blue button thingy, and yes it might be easier to paint the blue plastic, but I'm afraid every time you put it in, and out, of the scabbard it would scrape the paint right off that blue button thingy.

Has anyone identified Gayrza's Knife? (the one that looks like a claw.) I saw that the behind the seens pic of it calls it a "fruit knife". but I did a search for fruit knife, claw knife, and fang knife, and got nothing quite like it.

Sorry if I seem a little ADD with all these question lately, but I've been hitting Farscape props pretty hard lately, and I've been on a bit of a role, and kind of multi-tasking with it. :)

i tried for a long time years ago to find that fruit or pearing knife...never found a thing.

Vacuforming is the way to go, and what i designed it for. You'll need a clay or plaster base around it for vacuforming, but thats the way to go, and how the original was, or at least the stunts.

If your talking about this one:

I think it's just a scratch build. Some aluminum, red lexan and and a band saw and you're good to go.

heres those other shots of the PK Knife...i bet if you dyed the whole thing in some RIT dye, it would dye the lastic bits and get the entire handle a consistant black, instead of black and gray.

Definately looks like the same knife there, and the Sheath is not modified withthe hole for the rivet

from those screen grabs, I can't tell if the blade is stock or not.

Where can I find "RIT dye"? (what kind of store, and if it's a place like Wal*mart, what section?)

Fabric section will have it. I've seen RIT at Walmart, Target, Michaels and JoAnn's so it's very common. There's both liquid and powder, a little goes a long way.
