Farscape Moya - 1/2000 Scale 3D Print Leviathan Build with Lights

In a world filled with Stars War and Trek, I'm one of those weirdos whose favorite sci-fi series of all time is Farscape. Don't worry if you've never heard of it... or if you have heard of it, but you know it as "that sci-fi show with Muppets."

Farscape is weird and slimy and has Muppets and fetish wear villains and I love it. So for a while, I've wanted to make a scale model of the real main character: the Leviathan Moya. She's a ship... a living ship... filled with strange creatures and I think she's a beautiful design. Unique in every way.

I found a frankly overpriced 3D print online and bought it. It was pretty rough, with a lot of the hull details either incomplete or wrong. Worse, I was determined to light it, but the print was filled with very dense support material. With a lot of swearing, I made it work as best I could, got fiber optic lights in the skin and devised a paint job that did a pretty good job of hiding a multitude of sins.

I'm pretty pleased. Enjoy a bunch of beauty shots.

What a gorgeous result!

Farscape is hugely underrated, I think. It's a fantastically entertaining show with a character and pace all of its own, and brilliantly memorable and grotesque characters. Superb character development too. It's right up there with the best SF TV shows in my opinion. So great to see it getting some love here, and with such a terrific build.

Another vote for a matching Talon!

Oh my God, I'd love to see that.

I've heard from a couple of people over the years who made props and such for the show. Farscape is pretty obscure in some circles, so I think that the creatives from that era always enjoy the opportunity to talk about it and show off their work. The design of everything was just so fun and fantastic. Nothing else like it.

I'm kind of obsessed with Farscape at the moment. I'm also a writer and I've written a spec script for a Farscape soft-reboot. In my imagination, it's the best new sci-fi show on streaming. If only I knew who to send it to

I think I liked it so much because it was the antithesis to Star Trek. Not everything was resolved to a happy conclusion. I think my favorite episode was We're so Screwed - Hot to Katratzi.

That's really cool flimzy. I love seeing the creative processes behind ship designs. They go through so many iterations and strange cul-du-sacs before reaching the iconic design that we all recognize. Thanks for sharing.

I think I liked it so much because it was the antithesis to Star Trek. Not everything was resolved to a happy conclusion. I think my favorite episode was We're so Screwed - Hot to Katratzi.

The whole We're So Screwed plotline was great. Both very grim and really funny. I think it's such a strong choice at the end to show Crichton as so broken. He's just exhausted and OVER it. I love it.

I bought it off of Ebay from a UK seller called "3designprinting." Here's the original listing: Moya - Model Kit - Approximately 18" Long | eBay

I've also seen this particular 3D print for sale as a file too. I'm certain that this is the identical design as the one I built: Farscape Moya Leviathan @ Pinshape

I don't have a 3D printer myself, so I had the Ebay seller print it for me. Probably a lot more expensive than buying the file and finding somewhere to print it locally. Live and learn...
