Familyman's 2012 Halloween Costume Contest Entry

Ok so my son wants to wear a Halo costume for Halloween.
I have one of his 6 inch figures for reference and have been looking around for any ref pics I can find. It is not going to be 100% accurate but once painted and everything I am sure he (and his friends) will love it.

Some of you may have seen my other work, Foam life size Wall-e and R2-D2. The only experience I have is what I have taught myself over the past 3 years. All i work with is foam, mainly because it is all I can afford. I have only been building props and costumes for the past 4 years. The one thing I am really pleased with (apart from the smile on my sons face) i how well the thing looks overall. Seperately the pieces are not that great ( I will be the first to admit it) but all in all once all the pieces are put together I am really pleased.

I put a few hours into it today and came up with this so far.
The visor is just a piece of toy packaging in place just to see what it will look like.

It is a long way from finished yet, I am kinda building it up as I go. I have the basic shape now so i will added and build it up and out.

testing some ways to get my sons Halo visor gold but still allowing him to see well. He walked around the house without bumping into anything. You can see his face a bit but if I did the paint any thicker he wouldn't be able to see out.

Your daughter in the second picture looks a little jealous ! lol. Seriously though, you're such a cool dad for doing stuff like this for your kids !

LOL I was going to say exactly the same thing about the girl looking less than impressed! Or maybe it's a typical sibling thought, ie, "That's no good, I still have to look at his face!" :p

LOL< would it be bad of me to say I never noticed my little girls face in the pic?. My wife came home and saw the pic on facebook and the first thing she said was that Elizabeth was looking like she wanted to kill her brother.

Thanks for the compliments on the helmet. And yes I will have plenty of time to finish,,,,,,,,, I hope..

Thanks, it is slowely getting there. I am not using any plans or anything just eyeballing it. I am running out of time.
My son and I were able to paint what we have so far.

I know this is not 100% accurate but my son loves it and I just don't have time to make it 100% especialy as he is growing so quickly and he won't fit it in 6 months.
The gun is just for show, I will be making him Halo ones.

Ordered a motor cycle visor from ebay a few weeks ago, it finaly came today. And really sets off the helmet well. I will be working on the lower legs tomorrow and then will take an updated pic.

I dont know if u are aware or not, but the 405th is another costume group spacificaly for halo, Im sure they could give u some great advice, they also have a ton of pep files for all halo costumes and armor variants (most, if not all are for adults) but if u have the full pep. lisence u could resize to ur son's size, and at hey very least, its really great refrence, good luck, look forward to seeing more

Re: Started my sons foam Halo costume for Halloween.

yeah I know of them thanks. Might check them out once I start my one. But this is just for a halloween costume on a kid that will out grow it within 6 months so I am just throwing this together. but thanks.

Re: Started my sons foam Halo costume for Halloween.

My son came home yesterday with a note saying that there is going to be a Halloween costume contest at school. First prize is a PSP. My son has been wanting one for a couple of years now, we have just not been able to afford it. Fingers crossed for him.

Made up a template of a Master Chief assault rifle on a piece of card them transfered it to some foam. Made three templates on foam. Glued them all together then just added some extra pieces. Again not accurate but I know my son will love it.
