Fallout New Vegas Clarabella 7

Seen aboard the alien ship Zeta this capsule is identical to the Mercury capsules of our timeline. The only other mentioned in the game is in the Museum of Technology ruins and is the Defiance 7 that crashed on impact. I may make a reproduction of that one (which is basically the same as this) if i can find a kit cheap enough and a 1:48 scale skeleton for the pilot in his display case.

The pilot of this ship Colonel Hartigan is found dead in the engineering section of the ship. He died of complications with the stasis pod and the tortures performed by the aliens. The US government claimed that he died when is capsule got tangled in a high altitude weather balloon (those pesky weather balloons) and crashed to the earth after his low altitude flight.

This kit is a newer reissue of revell's mercury/gemini two pack that seems to go all the way back to the 60s, even the packaging has the old school art. It was pricey but the only way to get an affordable mercury capsule.
There are only about a dozen pieces to the 1:48 kit and the details aren't super amazing. I'll be doing the interior in detail but with the window fogged from heat and age not much'll be seen inside. I'll be modding the pilot's body to look like Hartigan in stasis. The worst part of this is going to be painting the exterior and making the custom decals (which i may see if i can get a custom set made instead of me fussing with it).

I am going to take some liberties with the heat shield area and the chute straps as the ones in kit are really lacking so i'll make something up based on other builds. There is amazingly few pics of the interior of the Mercury capsules without a dummy sitting in it but I figure it's not the biggest deal since you never see the inside in game.

Edit: Wow I never realized the 3 thrusters that go on the bottom of the kit are massively out of scale with the chute packs.

I did glue the hatch into place as it wouldn't stay on its own like they said it would.

lol I honestly don't remember seeing the capsule but it could have been in a corner, his corpse i do remember.

Here it is nearly totally assembled, i put the window in and am going to mask it with white glue or something and then darken it like in the game with a wash when i detail the rest. Not sure why it's a gray color in the game as the real capsule was black. The manual calls for semi gloss black but all i have is flat. There are some gaps and seams to fill.

Proof that engineering a model kit isn't really rocket science:

I have no idea how it happened as i lined all the parts up exactly yet that gap is there.
