Hello RPF community,
New member working on one of their first fan costume builds here, so please excuse me if my forum etiquette is a little off or non existent. Now this costume may seem simple compared to some of the amazing things I've seen you all post on here, but I've hit a wall and desperately need your help. I'm trying to find the correct style trench coat for the Silver Shroud costume I'm working on. I can't find one in the proper style in anything even resembling the correct length. So you are my last hope in finding it without having to have one custom made. Even if it's not 100% (color number of buttons ect.) but it's close I can alter it/have it altered to fit the costume. Sewing skills are very basic so the closer it is the better. Photo from the wiki of the costume for reference. Thank you so much for your help.

Finding the perfect one is a gamble, I'd say the only way to make it perfect is to do it yourself. I know from experience, I am very near finishing an NCR ranger Cosplay and the duster was the biggest hurtle. I ended up buying the closest material I could find, making a pattern (you can use any 30"s trench coat pattern purchased from a fabric shop or the internet) and just start making it. Sewing is not difficult it's just time consuming, consider borrowing or just buying a sewing machine, you will love how many possibilities are opened up to you once you can scratch build just about anything. Plus its always more enjoyable to show someone something you have put time and passion into, even if it's not 100% to you.
Here's my Duster...

P.s Long coats are very easy to make, my duster is made of 8 pieces in total including the liner.

it seems to be a mens trench cut for a man with womens buttons.

The difference in mens coats are they have a button hole for a boutonniere, womens traditionally did not.

It uses a Traditionally womens style of buttoning, it buttons lower to keep wind from blowing up a dress or skirt.

The liner is custom and 50-60's style, with the liner turned out to the lapel. My guess is that an artist went to fashion design school and was making a statement for the period because womens coats stopped have long buttoning patterns in the 60's when they went to big buttons and a belt. Hard one to find look at thrifts and add buttons and a piece to make the liner look turned out on each lapel.

Hope it helps, I liked it too, I'm having a Tommy Gun Hard Chromed in the next few months.

Wow thanks very much for your help guys. I had no idea how much went into a trench coat design. While i can't say I'm confident in my sewing ability, I am confident you guys armed me with enough knowledge to give it a decent go. I've picked up the krylon silver chrome spray paint for my tommy gun. do you guys think the scarf is a plain white silk or is it a faux silver/gray? Just eat a second opinion before I get one.

You could use a white scarf then use grey spray paint to darken it up. Just be sure to test the fabric first on a spot that you wont see to see how the paint reacts to the cloth.
