Hey all! Just wanted to post a picture of my Mechanist Costume me and my wife made for Dallas Comiccon (Fan Expo) this weekend. I'll do a full write up soon, but i thought I'd show off this pic! I'll post WIP shots and more pictures very soon. Thanks for looking!

Alright so I promised a write up, so here we go!
The suit is based on the actual game files, but have been modified heavily for 3d printing and foam. This was my first foray into foam, and I already learned a lot about what to do and what not to do!
Here you can see the files in progress.
First I made a human in makehuman to fit my proportions, I then scaled the suit over it in 3ds max (making sure I was using a real world scale)

Here is a closeup of the helmet in the modeling window

I then used an online software called "exactflat" to take each 3d model and convert it into a pattern that I could draw out onto craft paper using a vinyl cutter. Here you can see the interface online. You have to pay for each pattern you do, but you can load them all up at once and get one big vector file, so it's not bad. It works much better than pepakura designer, because it takes stretch into account, so you can make things with as little seams as possible.

I then did the usual process of cutting out the patterns and gluing them together (as many have done before), until I ended up with the full suit!
Here are some WIP pictures

Here is a closeup pic of the finished helmet

And here is a cool picture of my and my wife (as "nora" from vault 111)

We took home first place in the video game category at this past weekend's Dallas Fan Expo!

We had a lot of fun making it, thanks for looking!
