Fallout 3 - what bugs me

I figured I'd post here since a bunch of people like Fallout 3. I'm replaying the game again waiting for New Vegas (and Mass Effect 2 DLC...). Anyway what really bugs me is that the interactions don't account for your equipment. What I mean is that people still treat you like an idiot wastelander when you're walking around in power armor and plasma weapons. Obviously some, like the Outcasts and some BoS would still treat you like you're not equal, but they would still probably show you a little more respect. They wouldn't necessarily say "Hey local, shouldn't you be banging rocks together?" Am I just being too picky? :lol

Yea man I think you've been playing the game too long :lol
don't feel bad, you could be a private in army tradoc afterall rofl

my major complaint was the damned if you do/dont ending, and then you cant continue playing as a character you spent so long building like you can in morrowind.

i hope new vegas is alot like morrowind in that sense, open world play.

New Vegas is made by the folks who made fallout 2 so it should be better. I love the first 2 games.

The Broken Steel add-on fixed that. Though I haven't beat that, or Mothership Zeta or even finished Point Lookout. (I like playing on the hardest setting but dang those swampers are tough for a bunch of unarmed overall-wearin' jerks). I haven't fired up the game in over half a year...and now I have to. Not sure if I should thank you:unsure

Definitely agree with this. The originals are the best. - See avatar.

Looking forward to the new survival mode.

wait, if i got broken steel, i could continue playing as my character and do missions i didnt do? i dont have interest in the one that has the big robot war in your mind thing. if thats the case, and i can keep going open world, id probably be a little more excited about fallout 3. i only played the og game, not game of the year.

The add-ons go something like this.

Op Anchorage- Virtual Reality "Simulation" (not accurate) of the battle of Anchorage against the Chinese

The Pitt - Take a train to Pittsburgh and have some Mad Max fun

Point Lookout - Take a steamboat up to the coast and fight Hillbillies

Mothership Zeta - Get kidnapped by aliens and fight your way off the Mothershp

Broken Steel - Continue past the end of the game (continue playing game never ends). Raises the Level Cap to 30. Hunt down the last remnants of the Enclave in the Capital Wasteland plus a couple of other mini quests.

Broken Steel really is the fix they made after people kept complaining about the ending, myself included.

awesome. then it looks like i have to get my hands on the pitt and broken steel.

i really thought those extras didnt add on and you were finished after that stupid ending and werent worth bothering. i'll be looking into getting them. dumb question: i rented fallout 3 for my 360, do i need it for those expansions or am i ok with out it?

Yeah, you need the game disc to play. The Game of the Year edition includes all the expansions on the disc though so renting it would save you some cash. IIRC each expansion is around $8, some more worth it than others.

Is anyone else plagued by crashes? Sometimes I get 3 or 4 crashes in the space of a couple of hours. It just locks up completely and you have to ctrl-alt-del.

YES!

I thought it was just related to the PS3 port since Bethesda hates playstaion.

If you are on PS3 and you already own/installed Fallout3:

The only way to get the DLCs is to buy the Game of the Year Edition (GOTY). It has all of the expansion packs included. They were originally only available through X-box live.

When you buy GOTY you can just pop in the new disc and play, BUT, I have found that if you un-install F3 and then install F3_GOTY you will save alot of disc space and the game will run alittle smoother.

BE AWARE: The GOTY install is seven gigs! Make space first.

What bugs me:

The constant lag and freezes in F3. Sometime it can run without a glitch and other times you are lucky to be able to take three steps before it locks. But that is not the games fault, just sloppy code from Bethesda.

As for the game:

Little Lamplight. Where do the children come from? I understand that kids grow up there and leave at 16 or 18 or so, but where do the new kids come from? Its 200 years after the bombs dropped. Did Big Town send offspring there to grow up? Do people in the waste just have kids and ship them off to Lamplight?

i thought that was a little strange too.

There are parts of the storyline that seem like they forgot to finish writing it. Like some of the stories in the vaults you find i'd love to have explored more into what it was like in there when things went wrong. Or like you guys said with little lamplight. I really liked the rough outline of the original version of Fallout 3 before Bethesda got ahold of it. Some more story driven quests like in the original games would have been nice instead of going to find stuff for folks. Plus what's going on in that office building where all the ghouls are and you see ghosts? I know what the alter in the basement is for but they never really explain what's going on in there or anything else.
I also miss the silly random encounters the first games had where you'd find the Knights who say ni or see the Doctor's call box. That and why are all the weapons so different compared to the first games when its the same universe?

It's my understanding that the children gets pregnant with the other ones, before they need to leave for bigtown. Even if they are "kids" for us they have grown up WAY to early in the fallout world. I see them as those kid soldiers that exists in our world.
The fallout world is a very dangerous place and all that these kids know about the outside world is something that they have been passed down through about 12 generation since the war ended. Probably has warped the story's a bit along the way and that is why Big Town is considered a Haven.. (im guessing thats where the Original school class comes from)
The place is also a homage to the place that Mad Max finds in Mad Max 3 beyond thunderdome..

I have had a lot of crashes under Win7 64bit. I set it to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and it seems to have fixed it somewhat.

I thought you were going to say the running animation. As good as this game is, I have a hard time getting past this. I ended up playing the game in a zoomed in 3rd person pov where you can only see your characters upper body. :lol

Little Lamplight. Where do the children come from?

Well.. you see.. when a mommy loves a daddy ...

What, you wanted them to show a 13 year old pregnant? That would have been controversial than the Brahmen for India and the bomb in the center of that town for the Japanese.

I wish we could kill the kids as we could the originals(until the update) but at least they have children in this game...
