Fabric identification help

Later this year I want to make the jacket Otso Berg wears in Assassin's Creed Rogue, which looks like this:

The black parts on the body, lapels, and cuffs and the burgundy straps definitely seem to be leather, and, although it's hard to tell in these pictures, judging by a more high-res shot I saw earlier that I can't find now, the lighter greyish/bluish material on the body, collar, and sleeves seems to be denim, or something similar.

What I'm having trouble figuring out is whatever the shoulder cape thing is made of. I'm guessing it's some kind of synthetic utility fabric, maybe something used in military clothing? Does anyone have any idea what it could be, or what I might try searching for that might get me something similar? I was thinking if I couldn't find something close, I'd just use the same denim from the body but wax it to give it a different texture/color and make it water resistant.

Well, the pattern you're looking for is called herringbone weave.
I'd plug that into some searches in fabric stores, ebay, see if you can't come up with something that matches closely enough. I'd say a nice stiff fabric would do it, maybe an upholstery fabric with a herringbone print, or if you can find a kevlar fabric in a herringbone weave it'd be even better (but pricey!)

I did think it looked a bit like herringbone, but most of the herringbone fabrics I've seen are not at all the right texture/material. I will try looking at herringbone upholstery though, and I suppose I might as well look into kevlar, although I suspect it'll be out of my price range. Thanks.
