Explain Iron man faceplate servos for dummies?

Hi there, I'm looking to automate my Iron man helmet to open & close. I am very new to theRPF & I have no idea about these electronics, how to set them up, etc. also, I slightly understand how the hinges work, could someone explain it to me & where I can buy it? & for the electronics (servos, etc) can someone make a "parts list" so we all know exactly what to buy? A step by step guide would also be great I think this thread would help a lot of people, so please help guys!!! Thanks.

PS. Anyway to have the LEDs in the helmet shut off as the faceplate opens? That would be awesome, I wonder how everyone does it :/

i personally know very little about electronics, so i will be buying this Hyperdyne Labs - Electronics - Ironman Visor Controller Board thats all the electronics sorted. that allows the faceplate to open, jaw to drop (if wanted), and the eyes to turn on when the faceplate is down and off when its up! all you need to get really is the actual servos to connect to it, and make some hinges

no its just basically the circuit board pre programmed. you will need to get the power suppliy, switches, lights, servos etc.

I haven't seen the hyperdyne in a working helmet.

i find that pretty offensive, to say you have no idea of my past builds or any other things that i have built. i am just trying to give advice to people that have asked for it. just giving my 2 cents.

Hey guys I'm seeming to get the jist of it. Xrobots I looked at your videos, and they were very good, can someone by any chance get some links to the required servos? I'm looking everywhere for them, but can't seem to find them. Anyway, thanks guys you are definitely saving me!

When looking at servos, you will need to consider many things. The speed, size, and the types of gears to be used. You will also look at the amount of torque they put out, as you will need ones that can lift your face plate. Tower Hobbies - Best Source for Radio Control ( R/C or RC ) Cars, Trucks, Airplanes, Boats and Helicopters and Servos are great places to start. Dont get discouraged about the prices, as there are many great options that dont cost to much.
