EVA Foam Body Form/Mannequin

Hey RPF!

I was in the market for a dress form for a while, but I couldn't find anything in my budget and I'd rather spend money on making actual costumes and props. I was inspired by the popular duct tape mannequin. I actually have one of those of myself but I don't like how the duct tape falls apart all the time. I really enjoy the patterning process for EVA foam armor and the like so I thought i'd make a body double using that technique. It was also requested for me to do a quick write-up of how I created my EVA foam Mannequin using my body as a pattern. A lot of this is the same basic idea on how you make a duct tape body form. So you should check out how to do that as well.

If you want to start this process you should already be well versed in EVA foam patterning, check out these links for my info on that. (this is where i learned how to do it)

(I'm going to do this in increments as I find the time to do so)
...I'll post more in a bit!

you can get all the supplies and tools I used here:

Don't cover your mouth and/or your nose in this step.

It also helps to have a friend help adn take pictures along the way just in case.

The first thing I did was wrap myself in saran wrap or shrink wrap- try to make it a thin an accurate as possible, be mindful to try and preserve every crease.

Once wrapped - use a single layer of masking (or duct tape) to define your shape, try to preserve the 90 degree angles and creases by getting creative with tape edges
now you'll want to find your defining marks with a sharpie, nipples, eyes, belly button, center line fron adn center line back, in my process I only use one side and then flip the pattern once everything is completed

Cut very carefully, and slide out

You should have something that looks like this now

Continue to define the shape and create the pattern with registration marks, remember to label each part because you'll be cutting these out and you want to remember which one goes where. This will be a 3d puzzle pattern.

Cut down the center line and you should get something that looks like this.

You'll want to cut all of these puzzle pieces out. You can get a really detailed description on how to do this here:

I'll come back later and post some more steps... We are almost done here!
