Eureka Season 4 - Not very Good!

I may be alone here, but after watching the first 8 episodes of Eureka's 4th season, I am greatly dissapointed. IMHO they have taken away the very special magic that made Eureka "Eureka".

Some of the parts I hate the most are, after travelling back to 1947 they return to find that are now living in an alternate timeline where:

- Henry is married
- Tess never left for Australia
- Fargo is head of GD
- Jo is no longer deputy but head of GD security
- Andy the robot is now deputy
- Jo and Zane never got together
- Allison's son Kevin is no longer autistic
- Allison is Chief Medical Officer at GD

And, they decide to introduce a new character that IMO, is a totally wrong fit for the kind of series it's been. A chain-smoking, hard drinking, womanizing scientist that followed them back from 1947? Puleeeeze.

These new episodes are far to dark and serious for my taste, let's go back to the light-hearted/semi-serious episodes that made it so popular.

I can watch episodes from the first 3 seasons over and over again. Season 4, so far I've watched each episode once, and I doubt I'll watch them again.

I'm only hoping that this is some kind of temporary story arc, and that they will set things straight and have the original time line resume, without the stupid/cliched new charcater that I thoroughly despise:angry.

If this new timeline theme is to be the norm from now on, I can't see myself being a fan for much longer.

By the way, they've confirmed a fifth season.

I don't feel as strongly about it either way as you do but I do tend to agree that I don't care for the 'alternate future' thing they've got going. I have no idea if this is some kind of temporary story arc or permanent - just like you said.

I HOPE it's a temporary story arc. So far it has been pretty depressing which doesn't fit the tone of the show.

I'm betting that they'll restore things at the end of the season. I liked the first seasons cause the show was always slightly silly intentionally.

Seems like the writers were tasked with an overriding story arc for the whole season (something they've not done before) and haven't done that good a job with it. Hopefully it'll be a lesson learned kinda thing.

I don't have that big a problem with the new guy. The previews for next weeks season finale' show them going back again and trying to fix what went wrong. Of course, what went wrong was the new guy hijacking his way into the future....My guess is that in pure uninspired cliffhanger action we see them jump to the future and it ends before we find out if they fixed things or not and then we'll have to wait til next summer to find out.

Hmm, I only caught the crossover episode with the girl from Warehouse 13. It was good enough for me to put the show on my list. I guess I'll really like the earlier seasons.

I'm loving it. It had gotten to be a lot like House, but instead of illness of the week it was what piece of equipment or experiment was going awry this week. I've welcomed a change back to a little intrigue that was in season 1.

Nothing stands up to the first season. That was magic. The finale when Henry had to let his wife die to restore the timeline and prevent the anomolies was heart breaking.

I'm not as crazy about this season as some of the past seasons, but I still like the show. There was an episode where several people were seeing people in their minds and when somebody asked James Callis who he saw, he responded with, "Tall leggy blonde, slinky red dress." Priceless!

Yeah that was a great reference. I'm interested to see where they are taking the show; whether they will go back to a regular timeline. Still that whole dance/singing thing was incredibly stupid.

I'm glad they've gone this way with it. It's always been on the verge of being canceled, but now it's already confirmed for a 5th season? Sounds like they did something right. And I agree, it was like House or the first few seasons of Smallville; monster of the week.

I couldn't get past season 1, I thought it would be cool from the commercials, but then me and my dad tried to watched it and the whole show sucks, not just the 4th season, it's part of what killed Sci-Fi channel, that and the new BSG

I like it, shakes things up a bit. nice to see some time travel that has some consequences sometimes. Always hear the threats but nothing ever happens. Like it so far this season.:thumbsup

After surfing around abit, it seems like this new timeline might be a permanant thing.:cry

SyFy states that Henrey's wife and the 1947 scientist are new additions to the cast, and you don't add new cast members for just a few episodes.

But I still hope and pray that they go back to the original timeline, IMO this "reboot" is going to kill the series.

They've changed it from: light-hearted, slightly silly and fun to dark, brooding, way to serious, and most of all depressing.

Sci-Fi programs are not what is killing the Syfy channel (that name change sure wasn't a positive) it's totally irrelevant programming like Wrestling (WWE)...

I would personally watch any made for SyFy cheese fest "sci-fi program" before WWE...

Anyway, Eureka sure has changed a lot, even though I enjoyed the first season episodes they always left me saying "WTF are they even trying to keep this on the air?" I enjoyed it but felt that they were dooming themselves to cancellation... As has been said rating are now pretty steady and it's on for another season so they must be doing something right...

I liked the old BSG,:rolleyes and Sci-Fi channel just keeps putting out boring and lame 'syfy' shows.:thumbsdown

Wow. Your dad's only 40...how old are you again? Anyway, it was a sledge - you said something that seemed bizarrely weird, so I was teasing you. Lightheartedly, I hasten to add.

Seriously though, I just didn't get how you could list two of the best shows on any network as a negative...especially when, you know, sci fi shows and Sci Fi Channel...

...oh never mind. Your dad is younger than me, we're not going to speak each other's language. I'll just go watch some wrestling or something.

I do love this show, but this season really has changed things around and some of the characters aren't acting like they should, and that's kind of annoying. I hope they do wrap up this crazy timeline thing this season. I mean don't they have a mid-season finale coming soon?
