ESB DL-44 scope mount bracket nut - Who can make it???

What is it? :confused

It's basically a fat washer. 1/4" thick and about 5/8" wide, with a hole in the middle. I think they're in with all of the "spacers" in the hardware section of Lowe's & Home Depot. I've never seen them in aluminum, only plastic...not that it really matters.

Incidentally, considering that the Luke version of the ESB gun was the firing Mauser, I've been thinking on getting a defunct MR version that mirrors the Mauser to convert since this is the one I currently have. While I know I'll never get a real Mauser, it would be nice to have it as close to the real deal given that I have a real M19 sitting pretty on my current version ;)

Does anyone know if the ESB Luke & Han MR versions were based on the MGC or on the Mauser like the ANH Elite Edition?

To my knowledge all the Mr DL44s with the exception of the original Han ANH are based on the same Mauser.

I just started working on the prototype. I should have some thing completed by the end of this week.

If every one is happy with the design, I'll create a post in the junkyard.

I've got metric tools, just let me know which size. I belive I have 6mm, 7mm, 8mm and 9mm.

That´s great!
I´d appreciate if you could add whatever metric threading, which would be closest to the actual measurement of the other bracket nuts.

Thanks, Markus :)

All the MR units used a plastic spacer w/ 4 holes:
3 around the edges that locked into pins in the magazine well;
1 central hole to poke thru, pressure fit.

This was shown to be the method that was used on the SW: ESB Solo blaster- 3 screws off center (photo shown last year in "Entertainment Weekly"- don't have photo on hand).

What is it? :confused

There were 2 firearms referenced- I procured them both for MR.
1- C96 Broomhandle, 32 line grip, nice bore, some pitting in bolt & rear sight.
2- MGC Broomhandle early 80's vintage as it had no markings.

What was produced:

A master Broomhandle using the dimensions of the Mauser C96 was used for all three.
For Solo's SW: ESB blaster, the trigger, safety & bolt utilized data from the MGC version.
Solo's SW: ANH version used all Mauser measurements.
Skywalker's utilized the Mauser made measurements.

All can be taken apart- save the SW: ESB flash suppressors by unscrewing the bolt inside it. If stuck, drill it out. All other parts come off, but it was trial & error.

Powder coating can be removed by soaking the parts in a sealed container of Acetone (use chemical gloves as human skin absorbs this harmful chemical) and then scrub it off using brass brush; Scotchbrite® pad; toothpick etc. Just get the stuff off before the Acetone vaporizes and the powder coating chemical that was floating around will redeposit itself on the Zamac.

If you want, get "Blacken It" from Railroad Hobby Shop to darken zinc, Zamac, or brass (won't work on aluminum or stainless steel). Sand it Super Smooth before you use chemical. Apply with rag & gloves. Buff it up and add some more to your liking. This stuff doesn't eat away at aluminum the way Brownell's Aluminum Black does- this "soaks into the metal?" and looks great.

PS: thanks to my friend Steve for his help in this method.

Sweet info. mgoob! So it looks like I'll keep my eye out for a "POS" MR mauser to disassemble & convert .....at least now I know to stay away from the Han ESB version considering I want to make a Luke ESB. Too bad as the Han's always seem to be the cheapest even in good condition:lol

Here's a photo of the prototype I just finished:

The angle was a real trick, but my estimate was correct. At 25 degrees, the resulting diameter was exactly 5/8".
I forgot to do the 1/4" threading, but that shouldn't be too difficult to add after the fact. Let me know what you guys think. If any more changes are needed, I can do them. Otherwise, I can post the thread in the junkyard. The price is still estimated at $11 per unit plus $4 for US shipping. $8 for international shipping.

I checked the measurements. The closest metric equivalent is 6mm, which I have.

I've emailed Vince a corrected blueprint for the ESB nut.
The MR one is not tall enough and the beveled edge was angled too much.

FYI - The nut should be .25" thick and the threaded rod sticks out 3 threads above the nut.

Vince: nice work so far! :thumbsup
Wondering if can I get one with just a 1/16" hole in the center, unthreaded?

That way I can tap it to whatever I eventually choose to use.

Others may consider this option as there are so many different "versions" of the blaster out there.

You're welcome.

For Skywalker's Blaster:

Get the MR Solo ESB version-
replace the trigger (I have about 10...)
replace rear tangent sight (I have about 5)
replace the safety (check eBay or Gunbroker)
replace grips with wooden ones
putty the hole/ pin that runs thru the bolt

Then you have a Broomhandle w/ Mauser-made dimensions since you've replaced the MGC Broomhandle parts.
