Incidentally, considering that the Luke version of the ESB gun was the firing Mauser, I've been thinking on getting a defunct MR version that mirrors the Mauser to convert...
Does anyone know if the ESB Luke & Han MR versions were based on the MGC or on the Mauser like the ANH Elite Edition?
There were 2 firearms referenced- I procured them both for MR.
1- C96 Broomhandle, 32 line grip, nice bore, some pitting in bolt & rear sight.
2- MGC Broomhandle early 80's vintage as it had no markings.
What was produced:
A master Broomhandle using the dimensions of the Mauser C96 was used for all three.
For Solo's
SW: ESB blaster, the trigger, safety & bolt utilized data from the MGC version.
Solo's
SW: ANH version used all Mauser measurements.
Skywalker's utilized the Mauser made measurements.
All can be taken apart- save the
SW: ESB flash suppressors by unscrewing the bolt inside it. If stuck, drill it out. All other parts come off, but it was trial & error.
Powder coating can be removed by soaking the parts in a sealed container of Acetone (use chemical gloves as human skin absorbs this harmful chemical) and then scrub it off using brass brush; Scotchbrite® pad; toothpick etc. Just get the stuff off before the Acetone vaporizes and the powder coating chemical that was floating around will redeposit itself on the Zamac.
If you want, get "Blacken It" from Railroad Hobby Shop to darken zinc, Zamac, or brass (won't work on aluminum or stainless steel). Sand it Super Smooth before you use chemical. Apply with rag & gloves. Buff it up and add some more to your liking. This stuff doesn't eat away at aluminum the way Brownell's Aluminum Black does- this "soaks into the metal?" and
looks great.
PS: thanks to my friend Steve for his help in this method.
