Thought I would give the new blaster a shot. Still need to add charging handle on left side...also searching for more reference so I can adjust accordingly.
Anyway, here it is!

I'm curious... Does any one know if the left side some sort of "knobs" that slide into the thigh armor bracket??
After building the bracket it seems like the only obvious solution. I built 2 knobs that fit into the back elongated slots that seem to fit good...

anyone know about this?

I read somewhere that the way the blaster fastens to the thigh wasn"t magnetic at all but mechanical. Like you describe it was refered to some kind of "knobs", maybe located on the folding stock, and that were latching inside the thigh bracket:
[IMG] [IMG]

I haven't seen any close up pic of the rig on the blaster though.

Where did you find the 'action' pose image, the one on the left?

This is how I envision the mounting knobs. Looks like they would work perfect... just kinda ugly.

Finished Charging Handle... now to touch up some details as I find new ref.

Also, would like to decipher the text in the little square on the front sides. Anyone?

In the action pose pic and the left handed pic....NEITHER shows ANY kind of mounting system..

Maybe some were built to be holstered and some not?

Or maybe they just didn't want to show how it connects?

Interesting pictures for sure.

OldKen, That's because all of those are resin casts made by Anovos just for that troop. Nothing to do with the Hero blasters from the movie other than being casts from them.

Aaah ok.

Odd that the knobs weren't in the casting even if not functional...

About the latching system, i heard the rig on the thigh is just the base and there would be adapters to apply on it before being able to lock the blasters, one specific to the new E-11, and one specific to the sidearm. Or one specific to the e-11 and nothing for the sidearm.
That would explain why it seems to be more material on the stormtrooper display (with orange background) than on the ANOVOS version. The ANOVOS version seems to lack the e-11 adapter.

Great! Now I can take my name off the label... this is as close as I can make out what it looks like.

Here is a pic of the sidearm attached to the thigh... why wouldn't they just make the bracket "one size fits all"?
It's only (+ or -) 74mm between knobs... seems like enough room for a sidearm...but then again that would explain the multi-layered mounting system.

I think i have something interesting, still based on this idea of adapters and this picture. Let me know your thoughts:

Very cool...Looks like it would work great!
Thing is I'm trying to match how it was done for the film regardless of how well (or poorly) it functioned.

I agree with you, that's why i prefer avoiding to base my thoughts on the ANOVOS armors as we don't really know how accurate they are.

Also, this design would not only work, it also seems to me closer to what we can see on the original armors from TFA that were displayed at Celebration 7 (orange background). This "bow" like section is the one thing that is missing on your design, and the knobs can't be on the blaster (even though the only ones we have seen so far are ANOVOS', so we don't know how reliable they are).

Here are two more pictures of what is see. It is mostly your own design (but the dimensions are off), but once assembled the aspect is similar to what we can see on the original armors:
(The thickest section probably has some details carved on it too).

But honestly, i doubt we have enough reference material so far to really nail the design of this latching system...

Now I see what you mean... funny.... I know this may sound ridiculous but I just assumed someone did not either use the correct screws or failed to put them in at all and the Blaster knobs are pulling the brackets apart in that area.

Your idea makes more sense.

I have been making a few more small adjustments, but I was kinda waiting for a little feedback before I go through the trouble of splitting everything up for print...

Here is my crack at it ... Modeled over 3 weeks and printed in PLA with a PVC pipe for a barrel. Its not perfect but Im happy with it for a first prototype.

Is the model available anywhere?

I'd love to have a go at printing this off myself.

I do have a question though. Why not print off the fully assembled gun?? It should be able to be printed off in 2 halves & then just 2 pieces to fix together.

Episode 7 Blaster & Holster Clip

Ken will have to weigh in on availability. That would be one heck of a long print, as the scope took about 8 hours to print itself. Also there's no way to get a good level of detail in a print that large, due to all the differing angles of all the parts. Plus you would have a major pain in the * masking job on your hands to get it painted. Just my opinion on this though.

My printer will do 2 colours - so I can do black & white at the same time.

Just an option - if you think it would be worth a try.

Model is not available... yet.
TMacken and I a working hard trying to get all parts to print and fit well first.

I broke this thing down into several parts for a few reasons....
--Makes it easier to print on most personal printers
--Makes it easier to mold once it is printed
--Makes it easier to paint and detail

So to sum things up, it just all around makes things easier.

Some one asked about the holes all over the model instead of just simply printing the hardware.
handle.jpg
These areas will get actual hardware inserted into them.
Below is an example of my mk3 chest detail with the hardware added. It makes finishing a lot easier and looks really clean.
neck2.jpg

Also, I am currently looking into the material used for the grips. I have found some stuff that looks pretty close but I can't tell for sure until I have samples in hand... it almost looks like the rubber used for a jar opener.... anyone have any thoughts on this??
rubberGrip.jpg pa02-5_dragon.jpg

...more to come!

Yeah, I checked and it was at 95% and looking good, then I came back down 20 minutes later and it looked like that, and was at 99%. I'm going to upgrade my printer in a week, so I'll wait until I get the new setup working before I try and print that again.
