EP I scrubber droid. (the little yellow droids)

Anyone ever finish one of these, or at least have reference pics of them.

I've have a Rubbermade action packer, setting in my apartment since 99, or so, just waiting to become a droid, and I would like to "get 'er done".

I don't know witch version I want to do. I like the on in the VD best, but the other one looks a lot easier, and cheaper to do.

Anyway's, any tips, pic, info, etc, would be a huge help.

Thanks

I have a couple of unpublished pics. Ill try to dig em up for you. If anyone is interested I have 3-4 of these tubs. Not gonna use em.

Wow! this must be an Ohio thing? :)
I would love to see those pics also Richie If you could send them my way!
I'm having a hard time finding a front view of the Naboo Hanger droid...

BTW Richie,
PM sent on the tubs

The number of Ohio posters in this thread IS frightening. We should make it a group project! ;)

I didn't even notice that this was an Ohio thing. That's great! It seems like everything always takes place on the other coast, it's nice to have something close to home. I'm in for an active project.

I started to work on mine a little. It turns out that I have the more recent "action packer" (the one with the wrong handles) But I'm ok with that. I may try to rig up some handle cups/receivers out of resin, or sculpy, or I might just lever it be. (other then that little piece were the handle meets the body, they're pretty much the same..)

Anyway's, I removed the handles, and started sanding it, and sanding , and sanding, and sanding. The seems are awful on mine, but I'm close to having most of them flush now. I think, I'm going to do all the fabrication, and drilling, and stuff, before I painting it. I know that sounds obvious, but at fist I was just going to get it painted, and add the other stuff later.

I know the tubes on the real one were probably just the plastic tubes that they talk about one TPOSW, but I was at Lowe's today, and in the pluming section, they have this really great chomey, metal, stuff that looks a lot like it, and hey, it's metal. (it was like $22. though. :( ) I am think of using that, I'm just going to shop around a little first.

I've decided to do the one in the second pic on TPOSW. (the more steam lined one) It looks easier, and cheaper, then the one in the VD, and all the toy versions are of the one in the second pic too, so I kind of will have a scale thing going on, and a little bit of another reference point. (the one that comes with the 12" scale EP I anakin, is very nice.)

I could use pics of either one though, and it anyone figures out the Add-ons, on the VD version I may have to do one of those too.

That Mohawk part on the VD version looks kind of like it might have been a found item.

Oh, and if you're like me, and didn't notice the one in Watto's shop, just look on top of the second Gunk droid. (next to the pit driod that jar jar pays with.) If you can't find it on DVD, just look on page 50 of the EP I VD.

This might help

So, I guess the VD version is Watto's, and the other one, is the Naboo version.

Cool screen cap's thanks!
Still both of Watto's are facing away :(
I know that at least one has an R2 style cockpit light in the center of the front.

Yeah, the "Watto" version is the one with the R2 holo projector/eye. There's a front view of it in the EP I visual dictionary, or if you don't have the VD, just flow the link above to "the parts of star wars" where they have a copy of the VD pic.

I guess I might as well add myself to the growing list of people who have parts for this droid sitting around waiting to be built. Even tho I don't live in Ohio. :lol

And if anyone needs a resin Holoprojector (the R2 part on the front) just let me know and I can help out. :thumbsup

Cool, Hey KY. is close enough! ;)

Ok, let's brake this sucker down. I don't have any good pics of the Naboo version yet, so let's start with this pic of Watto's version. (it's the VD pic, I just blew it up, cleared away some of the other junk on the page, and numbered some parts)

scrubdroidbrack1.jpg

1. As they say at POSW this dish is most likely just a hemispheric Dom. You can get these from plastruct, but I'm just going to see what I can dig up around here. (this part seems to be on both versions)

2. POSW says this part of the antenna is a casting from one of those nifty little Naboo com links. I have a metal one of those coms, but I think I'll probably rig something up, out of hardware parts. (this part seems to be on both versions)

3. Some call this the "Mohawk". I have know idea what it's made of, but I kind of get the feeling that it's a found object. Since I'm doing the other version, it's not my problem. lol Just kidding, if I find anything out about it, I'll pass it on.

4. POSW says these are most likely those black, tubes, you find in the automotive section, or places like Radio shack, painted black. It dose look that way, but as I mentioned before, I may do metal ones. (this part seems to be on both versions)

5. These kind of look like those round LED covers, like you see on the ESB Hoth Rebel troops, rank badges. Does anyone know where to get these? (this part seems to be on both versions)

6. I know I've seen these somewhere before, but I just can't place them. It seems like they were something that goes on your car. like maybe those things that make noise to keep dear away wall your driving, or something. Any thoughts? (this part seems to be on both versions)

7. I have know idea what this yellow bracket thingy holding the R2 holoprojector is. Again, any thoughts?

8. R2 Holoprojector. (see POSW, for info on the actual found part)

9. These little things aren't on my "action packer", but they may be part of the accurate one. They may have been added. They look to me, to be either small switches, or some kind of screws, or something. (this part seems to be on both versions)

10. Just mask these stripes off before painting it yellow, to get this effect. ( they didn't do a very good job, so don't worry if yours is off a bit. :) )

11. This may be Chrome tape, or sheet metal. I think other metallic spots on this prop are done with chrome tape, but this section, because it has raised lettering under it, makes me think it's either sheet metal, or they would have to have ground/sanded off the text before using the tape. (this part seems to be on both versions)

12. Like POSW says, this is the same kind of circuit board you see on Watto's handheld datascreen. There's a pretty good shot of the back of Watto's pad in the VD so maybe those of you doing this version, could get them made up, or I'm sure you could just find some cool looking circuit board out of some piece of old junk laying around.

13. Chrome tape. ( I got mine at Wal-Mart for a few $, it's really cool stuff. )

14. POSW says "This version also has a piece in common with the grappling hook on the Security S-5 Blaster. It's located on top between the pair of silver hoses. The part is a section cut from a resin casting of the grappling hook, originally made from a metal knurled ring with four woodruff keys glued on as fins. You could make one of these, but I have one of those laser tag versions of the gun, and we could do a cast of that part if we wanted to. (I don't think it's one the version I'm doing though.)

15. These may have been custom made, and I'm sure someone here could machine them for us, but I wouldn't rule out them being found items just yet. They kind of look like those large spark plugs. (plus the spark plugs are just a few $ for a set of 2. ;) )This version also has a piece in common with the grappling hook on the (this part seems to be one both versions)

Thoughts?

Someone said that #6 is a thing you put on you car that is supposed to make a noise to keep deer from running into the road.
#9 is what everyone assumed are screws that hold the container to an R/C car chassis.

I've been meaning to make one(or more) of these for a while now. I have 6 of the APs. #15 to me looks like possibly air hose ends with others cut and stacked on top.
#5 looks like push button lights or pilot lights like you find on Machines.
#6 I know i've seen and possibly owned before. I don't think it is the Deer warning devices since they usually are cone shaped to catch the air.
Of course these are just ideas so I don't know for sure.
Cool thing is I made my own #7, #3 and started making #6.
I was just going to Vacuform 7 and 3 over my bucks and cast 6.
I also have some Light lenses that closely match #5. The actual #5s look like they have some writing or a logo or something on them.
I will have to dig out my molds and see what you guys think.
Thanks for the renewed interest.
I figured I'd use the Krylon Fusion Yellow for the Color.

Number 4 is definately plastic wire loom tubing. I've handled enough of it to be fairly certain that this is what it is. And it's really easy to get ahold of at auto supply stores, Walmart, Radio Shack, etc.

Number 7 looks like it might be some kind of a plumbing fixture or coupler, like for PVC pipe.

I was really hoping some one had done, or could do $3 I look foreword to seeing what you have so far.
I'm thinking Krylon Fusion yellow too. Quick, easy, and you don't have to worry about primmer. Though I was looking today, and the Watto version seems to have kind of a flat, or satin fish, but the Naboo version seems almost glossy, like they sanded off the pebbley finish that comes on the APs.

I have know doubt that they did use plastic wire loom tubing on the real prop, I was just saying that I might upgrade to metal for a more real look, and to avoid flaking, and chipping of that would come with painted plastic.

Oh, I haven't found the correct one for #6 yet, but I did a quick search for Deer whistles (for cars) and found this: (look at item #02204)

http://www.wildwoodfarms.com/call.htm

it's not it, at all, but it does make me think that the whole Dear whistle/alert thing might be the correct track.
