Tomy's latest FAQ

We now have 3,798 backers that have pre-ordered 4,391 replicas in the first two weeks of our campaign!
Let’s celebrate with some more FAQs!

REPLICA FAQs

Will there be interior details of the Officers' Lounge?

Yes, the interior details of the Officers' Lounge will include seats, tables, plants, and more.

Does the Detailed Hangar Deck have interior details?

The model’s Hangar Deck will replicate the Hangar Deck from the movie but will not include any shuttlecraft, pods, or people.

Will the registry numbers on the saucer and nacelles be lit?

They will be lit on the upper saucer, and the insignia on the underside of the saucer will be lit by the lights on the base. The numbers on the nacelles will not be lit.

Will there be a cover to hide the plug if the ship is removed from the base?

No, we are not adding a cover to this section of the ship.

Will the replica have sound effects?

No, this replica will not feature sound effects, as we feel it would decrease the overall quality of the product. When we create collectibles at this size, it’s hard to find speakers that produce a high enough sound quality for the cost - speakers at that small of a scale tend to make the sound tinny, which can make the product feel more like a child’s toy than a high-end collectible.

Will the ships be numbered?

No, they will not be numbered.

CAMPAIGN, SHIPPING, AND SUPPORT FAQs

Can I add additional replicas to my order?

Unfortunately, there isn't a way for backers or our team to manually adjust the replica quantity of your pledge, so we recommend creating a second pledge (you can use the same account). The only real difference is that you'll have two pledge IDs rather than one.
If you’d prefer to keep track of only one Pledge ID you can send us a cancellation request via email (tomyplus@tomy.com) and we can manually cancel your initial pledge, and then you can re-pledge for the number of replicas you would like (Up to 3 per Pledge ID).

If I change my mind can I cancel my pledge?

Yes, you are able to cancel anytime before the campaign ends (September 15th at 11:59pm Central). However, backers are unable to cancel orders from their account and will need to email tomyplus@tomy.com to request a cancellation, as our team will manually cancel pledges in the backend. Please include the name and Pledge ID associated with the order you’d like to cancel.

What delivery service will be used when you ship orders?

Packages will be shipped through UPS.

If international backers have the product forwarded, are they eligible for the same post-sales support as a US/Canada based customer?

We will offer support to all customers who order, but note that since all of our units will be shipping to a US or Canada address, we will only ship replacements, if needed, to the same address.

Indeed I am!
Mark your work is amazing! The paint, lighting and attention to detail is something to behold.

In your opinion, do you believe that the studio model’s original paint job was glossy? I really like the prototype’s sheen, but a few have said that it looks a little off. The black and white cloudster photos seem to depict it as having a sheen. Imagining this photo, colorized, it seems like it would have a surprisingly vibrant look to it, in terms of the different colored laquers.

I for one love the glossy look. Reminds me of an unpainted aircraft’s fuselage

Would it really be that difficult or expensive to implement? Hobby speakers have come a long way. They just need a decent soundboard.

Not a big deal if there's no sound effects and yes, I'd rather have no sound effects than "toyish" sound effects but, it would've been cool.

It would have been nice for sure. Tiny speaker technology has indeed come a looooong way! You can get some incredible audio quality now with todays mini amps and speakers.

But it is what is. The TOS has no sound so I guess they want it consistent.

Sounds like a call for one of our master prop makers to make a plug n play speaker run to set on the base and turn on when the lights on the Tomy go on.

Music, especially the Scotty/Kirk fly around.

Power up

Departure

Phaser fire.

Torpedo Fire

KAHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!
The original 8’ miniature was sprayed with glossy paint. However we need to adjust for size and scale for a 3’ model. I start with a flat white base then meticulously air brush the four Iridescent colors on top.

How did you get the spotlight on the registry on the inside aft end of the warp engines? Where does that light come from?

Some spotlight effects on a plastic model can be done from within by thinning the plastic, it’s called the Raytheon Effect.

This of course cannot be done with diecast metal.

I used the “ Myers” effect. What that means is I dremeled out the plastic from the inside. Meticulously and very carefully. It gives it a realistic look as opposed to the other way of doing it which is simply mask the area in question from the inside. To me it looks too perfect and fake, and yes, there is a huge difference. Your mileage may vary.
To this day I have no idea what a Raytheon was/is. It's a term that seems to be parroted . The actual technique has been around for decades, started by railroad modelers.
And yes while you can do it on a plastic model, I don’t believe the same can be done with metal. In fact I know it can’t be done.
Plastic and fiberglass, yes. Metal, no.

I like metal and I can not lie. You model makers can't deny. When Polar lights model is in your face us normies have to say,.....I can't make that.
