Enemy Mine Drac Bible -my next project-

In the past year i have been planning some projects and work on prototypes a bit so i can keep myself busy when my two current big porjects are wrapped up.

Amongst some smaller projects i am also working on this one. Wanted to do this one for years but lacked the skills and tools. I now feel confident i can tackle it :)

I am almost done with the prototype and can most likely do a run of these fairly soon, but for now just some info and a pic.

The cover was sculpted out of clay and molded to make a resin master. This will be tweaked a bit and i intend to spincast it in pewter (building my own spincaster at the moment).

The back will be milled brass and then nickleplated. In the screenshots it is apparent that the covers and the pages differ in color. The front looks silvery, but not as shiny as the back, heck the choice of pewter and nickleplated brass.

The hinge/clasp will be made of nickle plated brass as well, with a pressure cast gem

There are 12 pages inside the book. Pages have the same text on them they just put it upside down on the back. These will be electroetched in brass sheets.

More info to follow as i make progress. Some screenshots first:

Looks great so far! I'd love to get one for myself. I remember trying to take some screenshots of this on my computer.. maybe for you? Someone on here asked for them. I just couldn't get my computer to do it. I didn't have the right tools, and my standard screen capture wouldn't work. :( There was some great shots i had too. There is a LOT of detail that you can pick up on this thing, despite it being so little. Glad to see you are putting so much into it! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Hey Marc!

Great idea for a project! I have an idea for the pages that would be a lot simpler than etching the brass sheets. Polish some thin aluminum sheets, then PAINT it with the duller silver and do your aging, then laser etch the text right through the paint to expose the polished aluminum. We do stuff like that all the time at work and it looks bitchin'.

Just an idea. :)

Hi Pat,

Thought about it, but wanted a more durable approach. If the paint would chip, it would ruin the pages. The etchings are fairly undeep though, just enough to make them visible

Ah. Alternatively, you could use vinyl masks and bead blast the pages. The etching will be super nice, though. :thumbsup

Awesome project!
I just bought two chairs that are said to have been on Enemy Mine, still need to confirm that, though, and wondered what´s out there in terms of props!

my previous post was deleted so i will write about my prototype here only.

I am nearly done with the 12 pages and currently looking into building a pewter spincaster for the covers

This was so on my hit list for....well, one day. :wacko

But, I'm glad you've decided to save me the trouble.

Looking amazing, bro! Very excited. Excellent choice!

Oh, and you never call...how's my wife and family over there?

I am watching Enemy Mine right now on ALN and remembered seeing this thread. Looking forward to seeing more pics of it.

I thought I remembered the human character in the movie having a pretty cool gun towards the beginning, after the crash. Is that true? Would it make a good prop?

You're doing a great job with the book, Marchand. Talk about attention to detail.

wow, great work! i've always wanted one of these for myself, ever since i saw this movie when i was a kid. i made something kind of like it a while ago, but i don't know how to put the characters on the pages. i'm not sure what kind of metal the pages are.. i made the pages from the thin metal that serves as the "door" on floppy disks. :) anyone have a link to a good tutorial for electroetching?
