I just did my first pull from a new, rather large mould.

For some reaon the resin didn't cure properley, and has left slushy and partly cured resin in the mould. Is there a reommended way of cleaning the resin out ofte silicone I can't afford to ditch this mould!

Ugh! :sick

Rubber gloves, a stiff brush, and a LOT of acetone. :lol

Good Luck!

Can you find the reason for the slush?

I did a number of pours for a large piece. I can only assume one of them didn't cure properley.

Does anyone know if there is a Uk name for Acetone?

All I can find is nail varnish remover :wacko

Nail "varnish" remover. I suspect it's what we call nail "polish" remover, in which case, that usually has acetone in it. That should work nicely. (use in a WELL ventilated are)

Wouldn't brushing more catalist on to the uncured resin set it?
I've done this with fiberglass and it worked.

I got most of the slushy stuff out, but it's left a dry residue that I can't get off.

Here's a pic:

Try brushing in a couple coats of good resin, let it cure all the way, and peel it out. That should pull out whatever's left. :)

always check the date on the resin or else you'll end up with an old crapy
batch..
I've had this happen to me when I first started and I used Acetone or whatever
the resin sugested as the best clean up chemical.. This should resolve your
trouble, but in the case it doesn't next try some soapy water.. Unless the
Silicone is extremely old it's really tuff for anything to stick to it...
Or you can try pouring another cast and hope that when the resin cures that
the resin with also capture and remove the residue.. So when you remove the
cast, you will once again have a clean mold..

Good Luck!!

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I'm going to try with acetone and see how I get on.

The silicone and the resin were both new batches of smooth-on, I guess I didn't mix one of the pours properley.

I'm sorry for your troubles, but is that a "Shirow-ish" gun in there?:D

Yep, it's a C26A from GITS.
