Elysium custom patch "Oryx Warfare Group"

Remember the two mohawked South African mercenaries/Private Military Contractors that work for lead bad guy Kruger (Sharlto Copley) in Elysium (2013)? Drake (Brandon Auret) and Crowe (Josh Blacker) wear cool looking patches emblazoned with company name "Oryx Warfare Group and a Gemsbok (Oryx Gazella, a South African antelope) on their left uniform sleeve. Since I have little chance of finding an original I am going make some of these patches. Or more accurately find someone to make my design based on the movie costume.

I was hoping some of our keen eyed costumers here on the RPF would be able to help nail down the dimensions of this Hexagonal patch. I am thinking 3.5" x 3.5" at widest points which is the length of a standard playing card and a common military patch size. I have no idea who made the patches, they may very well be in a metric size or slightly larger.

I'll be in to buy one of these should you get them made. Might be worth talking to milspecmonkey.com about these too.

First artists proof is in. With the following corrections suggested and sent back

1. The overall shape of the patch needs to be modified to match my art. The patch in the photos (see attached) is not a true hexagon, it has 6 sides but all are not equal. I understand that his may slightly change the width dimensions on the design making it smaller.

2. The "Y" and "X" do not match the attached art I have sent. The artists proof letters are tapered narrowly in places where the originals are not. In my original photos you can see the X and Y characters have the same width or "fatness" through out the character. With no narrow parts.

3. Please add the trademark symbol "TM" to the right of the inside leg of the Oryx. Just barely touching the Oryx leg. In a very small and fine font(note Oryx Warfare Group is a fictitious company, no real trademark exists).

4. "Warfare Group" appears in a very fine text compared to the artist proof. Just wanted to make sure that it will be as close to the supplied art as possible.

What did you supply them with? One of these photos?

All of these photos and a few others.

The mirror image patches are were made for the movie. I don't know if those exact ones saw screen time. But they were part of production. I gleaned the photos of them from a defunct ebay auction.

I have those same photos. It killed me when I saw what those mirrored patches went for.

Let me see what I can dig up at home.... I may have better refs.

They show this art in the art book. I can scan it and give you vector art for your patch guys to use.

Thank you for the heads-up about your patch project. I never read the costuming forum, until today.

Did you send them the new art today? Did they say anything?

The initial patch company I contacted didn't seem receptive to changes and stated that they couldn't make an exact copy without an embroidery file .vls?). So I am changing to another company that is willing to work with me and my exactness.

If anyone is still looking I talked a friend into doing a run of these. They are live on his site now!

very cool , love the patch . i like how Neil Blomcamp puts the gazelle patch in all his movies . the patch in district 9 was also seen and used in chappie . on a side note its funny that he's a huge aliens fan and the two mercs are named Drake and Crowe two names of the colonial marines in the movie aliens . great work too
