I want to make a replica Farnsworth, and I'm contemplating making one with the ringtone. I don't know a thing about using electronics for this. Could I take one of those sound recorders out from a birthday card and use it?

Mostly, yeah. There's a bunch of those that have a little included mic. You can take a pair of jumpers and connect it directly to your computer. Takes a little fast fingerwork to hit record and playback at the right moment, but after that, you've got a sound.
