Electronics help. Adding LEDs to existing chain

Ok so I've been wrestling with this for a little bit. I'm trying to figure out how I could double or triple the amount of LEDs in the existing chain of LED.

There are 16 LEDs so far, powered by 2 AAA batteries along with other electronics out of the picture. I would like to triple the amount of LEDs even if I have to redo the power supply.

Any suggestions where to start? I've tried working it out with some of these wiring generators out there but they don't take into account the rest of the electronics and I'm not sure what to gauge for that.

I have all the necessary tools and I can supply whatever in you need. If you have an idea, I really appreciate it.

It's kind of hard to plan for anything when you don't know any of the values of the parts. Adding or taking away even one piece throws off the rest of the circuit.

For ease of working, you'd be better to simply buy another one of those strips (if they aren't expensive), or start the whole thing from scratch (so it can include all the new LEDS)

Thanks for the reply. I've tossed the strip in question and am doing one from scratch. But I'd like to keep the original electronics as far as sound and function goes. I could just space out the original set of LEDs but I fear the distance will ruin the effect. Can I somehow measure the output of the electronics pre-LED strip and determine the correct amount of resistors I need or power output from there? Maybe I can disassemble the original electronics enough to ID everything and make a working schematic from there. Well if anything, it's all very educational.
