Efx X Wing

Ok,

It's FANTASTIC...

But,

Am I the only one thinks that the angle of the open wings is a little bit close to each other.
Shouldn't it be open a little more wide ?

May be mistaken, or Photo's angle, I don't know...

I hope I'm wrong...

As a canuck guy (Montreal), the fact that you plan to add USPS's services is just plain awesome .. that's the main reason I stopped buying from MR and never bought from eFX (yet), because the shipping prices were completely out of control!!!

IMO, USPS is the best carrier out there .. the prices are the best, BY FAR, and I've never been left down.

Hope this will happen.

Ok,

I have noticed too, that the angle of the the open wings is smaller compared to many build ups I have seen.
That is great!

I have studied many pictures and screen shoots (ANH). I was very surprised how much the wing angles differ (from x-wing to x-wing and even from shot to shot with the same x-wing model). In one shot (ANH) the angle of the left wing pair is more then 40% wider than the angle of the right wing pair. In avarage the wing angle on promotional shots is smaller. So my conclusion is, that for some specific x-wings (e.g. red 2, which wings are fixed in the open position) there is one correct angle. Other x-wings (like red 3 and 5) do not have one perticular angle.

On most x-wing-build ups I have seen, the wing angle is at the maximum value of the range that the ILM-models had/have. They loose a little of that fast and slender look. In addition, the upper wings point more upward than the lower wings point downward. This is due to the kit and has rarly been corrected. I did corract that on my build up and I also reduced the wing angle. Unfortunately I was not brave enough with that build up, so on my next one I will reduce the angle even more.

Comparing with the pics I have, the angle on the efx x-wing is in the middle of the range red 5 has on screen (in ANH). It is a little larger than on most promotional pics.
The efx-wing angle does match red 5 and the x-wing looks absolutey great with it.

Thank you very much for your detailed post...

But that is my case...
It's not like " RED 5 "...

Will any other of us say/write something about this..
Actually I would also like to have a response from EFX.

Come on guys, thoughts ?
:confused

I think the wing angle is spot on....more shallow than the kits out there, and that is correct.....ill be honest, i dont like the cockpit/canopy set up, but from there...these guys seem to know what there doing...i think, for a mass produced item...this is very, very pretty, and there are some very "in the know" guys involved...and i do trust there eyes!

Here's how did my X-Wing toy conversion, which I feel is just about perfect:

I'm sold, too. Looks terrific, Barry. :love

And, as an overseas customer, I thank you for adding the USPS option for shipping. :thumbsup

I hope that tracking and insurance will be available with the USPS option. :)

Incidentally, (and FWIW) the toy I converted is only 18" long.

The main fuselage is approx 21" long from the rear to the tip of the nose. Quite a bit longer than X's we've been used to seeing over the years.

In answer to the question of the angle of the open wings. The wings on all of the X-wings seem to have been somewhat arbitrary, depending on who assembled them, what repairs they underwent and whether they were mechanized or not.

The mechanized "Red Five" wings opened to a different angle than depicted on the static models which were wider. The sissoring (?) wing action on the eFX model is dictated by the mechanism we used opening against the slot in the fuselage. We thickened the top of the mechanism to make it more robust and that results in a couple of degrees difference. Not too drastic, but definitely there.

Also we have never been able to ascertain for sure if there was more than one "Red Five" used for filming ANH. We have pics of the miniature that clearly show different paint treatments, particularly on the engines. It's unknown if there were other models or whether the engines and cannons (the weak part on the model) were damaged and constantly needed repair/replacment.

Shipping costs...

eFX is obviously constrained by the prices FedEx charge, but, of interest to our overseas customers, is the addition of USPS's services when the X-wing goes on sale.

USPS are far more competitive for overseas deliveries and can save our customers some serious money. Here at home in the States there's not much to choose between delivery services, but we recognize choice IS important and so we're adding in this service on our website.

Barry,

Those are excellent news for overseas customers like me! I can tell this one thing, I have used USPS since I started using the internet (10 years now) and NEVER had a problem with them. I think their service is not only fast, but the best one you can get for the money. I wish we had those fares here in Spain, where shipping cost with the regular PO is double the cost of USPS.

Congratulations again,

Sergio

Barry,

This looks great and I know I'm going to be getting one. I also appreciate the way you guys take the time and try and repond to all of our questions.

Thanks,
Tony

Good God! I've gotta have it! I was sold before - now I'm waiting with extreme eagerness!

Awesome! I was worried about the cockpit hinge - I think it looks fantastic!

Saving my pennies!

The only possible thing holding me back is seeing a production sample on that paint job. I'd really like to see some subtle weathering as opposed to the harsh weathering seen on the MR Falcon. Time will tell of course.

Dave :)

I agree I will wait for pics of those who have them in hand.As far as the Falcon goes I like the heavy weathering.

Heavy isn't always a bad thing when it's applied correctly, but some of the Falcons looked quite amateur-ish. Black polkadots all over it. That sort of thing.

Dave :)

I should have pics of the latest (last) factory sample this weekend. I'll post some for everyone to see. Our production run on the X-wing is relatively small and our hope is to eliminate any severe inconsistencies in the painting.

However these are hand painted replicas and no two people paint exactly the same no matter how hard we try to make that so. There will inevitably be some variations. It's the nature of the beast. But we conduct 100% inspections of our product so hopefully we can weed out any problematical models before they ship.
