Efx X Wing

In answer to the burning question of the day regarding this model - price - it's $1199. We tried as hard as we could to keep it as low as practicable given these harsh economic times. But in the end we lost our battle to keep it below $1000.

It's the same price as MR's AT-At and there's a lot more work and assembly involved with this piece. So hopefully this will mitigate things.

The model comes with a Luke pilot figure (it is "Red Five") which has been sculpted for us by the talented and kind folks at Gentle Giant. And darn if it doesn't look like Mark Hamill. It complements the work put into the accurate R2, very well. The cockpit frame is injection molded and comes with laser cut acrylic for the glass. This can easily be removed if anyone seriously objects to it, but will, of course invalid our warranty :)

The wings are machined aluminum and can be displayed open or closed. There is a detent which locates them in the open position and magnets that hold them closed. The barber poles are brass.

Someone asked a question as to whether or not we lit the cannon tips. Red Five did actually have pea-bulbs located at the FAR end of the barber poles AWAY from the tip. The cannon tips were hollow brass tubes and IF you looked DIRECTLY down them, then there was the slight possibility of the light from the bulb registering. I guess the ILM guys wanted to add some visual splash and perhaps give the animators something to key to. I'm doubtful about the effectiveness of the pea-bulbs as they certainly don't show on screen to my eye, and so we never attempted to replicate this effect on the model.

We'll be posting some articles about the X-wing on www.efxcollectibles.com in our In Development section. Hopefully that will answer some questions, and of course I'll pop back in here from time to time, if you have any specifics you want to ask.

Thanks,

Barry

Considering what goes into it, i consider that price a bargain....I will be in line to get one of these for sure, it looks fantastic.....

Thank you very much Barry for keeping us fans updated!
Fantastic Job! My highest compliments to each and everyone who is involved in creating that replica.

I have allready talked to my retailer and told him that I need to get this masterpiece.
The price seems fair to me and I hope that Efx makes good profit. That way more ships will come...
Writing about other ships: I would also buy Red 1, 2 and 3!

We have no plans for any variants of this X-wing.

The model was designed to be "Red Five" and accordingly sports the panel lines and raised panels of that beast. Also it has a very different and unique shorter torpedo tube positioned further forward than on all the other models, so it's very identifiable as "Red Five". Folks could always mod it, if they so desired, but that would be difficult.

The main fuselage is approx 21" long from the rear to the tip of the nose. Quite a bit longer than X's we've been used to seeing over the years. We were provided with a fiberglass cast of the X's body which we scanned and "straightened" to remove the curvature along the font toward the nose and the lack of symmetry from left to right on the rear. The wings of "Red Five" still reside in the Lucasfilm archives and provided us easy reference for the panels, details and paint scheme.

I forgot to mention also, we've replaced the old stereo jack system of delivering power to the model, with a ribbon connector. So if folks want to display their model creatively then all you need to is add a length of wire with a similar connector.

Wow! I am starting to salivate already.

Just a couple quick questions Barry. Is the power supply for the ship's lights going to be supplied through the base (as in the MR Falcon) or will the ship be able to be powered independently of the base? Also, where will the power switch be located, on the ship or the base?

Thanks for answering that Barry, you beat me to it.

Is there a power switch/ button for it, and if so where would it be?

The on off is on the side of the oval base. However the board etc. is mounted in the ship, so it would be easy enough to add your own switch in... (but I didn't say that) :)

G'lawd, if those pics don't sell ya, nothin will. What a nice item. Price is well within my reasonable range too. I think anyone that has paid another to build and paint their resin kits will tell ya they paid alot more than that to have this thing built to their liking. Of course shipping will be the next hurdle. They won't know that cost until they have a shipping carton size and weight nailed down. I'd love to see them vend to local retailers so these are available to everyone.

Shipping costs...

eFX is obviously constrained by the prices FedEx charge, but, of interest to our overseas customers, is the addition of USPS's services when the X-wing goes on sale.

USPS are far more competitive for overseas deliveries and can save our customers some serious money. Here at home in the States there's not much to choose between delivery services, but we recognize choice IS important and so we're adding in this service on our website.
