Efx X Wing

Kuhn:

Do you know WHY the wings sagged on the Icons? Were the reinforced at all?

Tks!

Indeed!

Not only were the ICONS wings about half as thick as they needed to be, but as you suggested, they were not reinforced at all.

Since I am uneducated on the subject, I cannot comment honestly on the materials used in their castings, but it seems quite clear that they may have taken a short cut or two.

It is really something to see. The ICONS interior wing 'pockets' are not even close to being as deep as they need to be. However... the main fuselage looks GREAT! And, if placed side by side with Scott Alexanders (Captain Cardboard) first released X-wing kit, they are virtually identical. Not to suggest it was ever a re-cast (as I know that it wasn't), but that Scott used the exact same measurements from the ICONS, which was derived from pieces of an actual screen used Pyro. ;)

Anyway... getting back to the eFX beastie... I still believe they did a great job for mass production. :D

I had an Artist Proof X-Wing from Icons and the wings never sagged on it. I had it for eight years.

Hello

I too have the ICONS X-Wing and mine never sag either. ICONS told me never to place the model near a heater or window where the sun hits it. I kept mine in a cool place. I'm very happy with it.

I do agree about the efx x-wing. They did a pretty good job on the paint. They may still do some modifications on it because this is only a prototype. I'll probably get one.

The wings of the eFX X-Wing are machined metal. It's been over-engineered to prevent the possibility of the wings sagging. We've seen Icons X's with and without wing droop and we don't want to see an eFX X, years down the line, with the same problems if we can prevent them now.

It looks quite stunning to me! I'm happy to see this whole shebang picked up again and I'm looking forward to seeing, maybe, a TIE and TIE Interceptor down the road.

Cool.

Who is Rob Ralls? Is he a member here? I look forward to hearing about how he got the paintjob gig.

You know that ain't half bad on the Factory master......if Efx can do tampo printed graphics on their models like was done on MR's Fett helmet, this little jewel will be worth every penny.

Dave :)

I'm looking at both pictures .. and I'm wondering, is this even the same bird?

Don't get me wrong, I understand camera perspective can do some magic but if you look at the size of the fusillage and the size of the nose piece, it's not even close ... same goes with thrusters ...

Did I miss something obvious since no one has pointed that yet?

I'm right there with you. Hmmmm...

Yes, well that's reason #1,532,341,513,777,190 why photo comparisons without careful photogrammetric standards and control are virtually worthless.

agreed. The nose on the left looks snubby. Not the same IMO

Come ON with that, guys. Virtually everything done with photo comparisons on this board is worthless; useless; pointless; misleading.

Here's the exact same X-Wing shot with two different lenses.
