Hello there,
I'm not one that wants to show off or show my whole collection either, especially since it's not properly displayed, but I thought about creating that thread to show a few of my cool finds from time to time and also discuss rare variations or discoveries that I encounter sometimes in vintage items as I think it's interesting to see and know about for us collectors :)

I'll try to keep this organized and post an item/find per post only and maybe keep a bit of a gallery/list in this first post.

Also, please, do not contact me to buy stuff though, I'm not showing these things to sell them. thank you :)

cheers

Here is a cool find I made on ebay, a small vintage box from a photographer that had a crazy amount of spare parts for graflexes and such. I can easily count parts from at least 5 graflite and 5 graflexes. The guys that was listing it had several other small boxes but only this one had graflex parts in it.
I received it a couple days ago and started making a small inventory of what was inside, I'm happy to say that there was 5 red buttons, including one of the first generation, one glass eye and one lever + square threaded box.

Now, as I want to keep this a bit informative, I now have 3 early red buttons and as usual with those early vintage parts, they are all very different, clearly machined by hand.

as you can see the middle one has a very large bevel on the top and the one from the right has it's bevel not centered, at all!
cheers

Here is another cool variation I already posted quite a while ago. Graflex clamps can have quite abit of variation in shape. A while ago, I came across one that was completely legit and yet, was very trapezoidal in shape. Pretty fun!

excellent find!!! love those unexpected sources - seeing a camera guy carry around an extra lever and sidebar (if I'm correct, that came from the box) gives more credence to the idea of generic replacement levers, and ones that replace a sidebar with a block, being a thing

I think there's a misunderstanding. I know where blocks can come from. I was talking about the V2's lever being a found part. There are still multiple theories about it. If that lever was an after market replacement part, how it was packaged. It could be that these blocks are just detaching from the sidebar, and just the lever and rod were replacement parts. It's also possible the replacement part came with a new nut, matching the "nut" part of the graflex, (it's the simplest, minimalist part to make). If they were installed, either way we wouldn't be able to tell where they came from.

So, here is another very cool find and vintage variation, This is a vintage Microflame torch, but it's rebranded with the French retailler at the time, "PERREGAUX Diffusion" in Paris.
It came with the original black plastic box that had the original "Microflame" brand molded into it. I was very very happy to find that as it's a very rare variation of the exact same torch used in the movie and well, I'm French, so why the hell not.

Hello there,
here is another comparison, for a while I've been a bit obsessed by the jawa powder flask and I have been collecting a few ones. A few ones I already sold as well.
I'm completelly sure it's possible, although very hard, to find a sister flask to the one used for the movie. I've seen a lot of flask and they have batches of similar symbols. So I'm sure it's possible to find a really close one, and I hope I can find one one day!

here they are in the order I found them:

the second one, this one I have seen a lot of close variations:

third one, pretty nice one even if the engravings are still not good:

and my last one, pretty proud of thise one as the engravings are quite different from what we usually find and the patina is amazing. This one is scupted on the wrong side of the horn, but this is another interesting thing as maybe, one day, i'll try to scupt the exact engravings on the back. THe funny part is that it already has 4 circles pretty closely situated to the real flask.

BTW, no worries for the ones desperately looking for one, you didn't miss anything here, this one was sold just for France and I had to send a check by mail, wait for the guy to receive it and bring it to the bank before he sent him. Would have been impossible for someone outside of France to get it.

Hey there,
I was aware there was two variations of the RO-72 back sight. Both variations being found on both the RO-71 and RO-72 actually.
here they are, the correct variation is on the right, the one on the left has an extra rectangle hole in the back but the front and back angle of the part are also very different.

I was about to list in the junkyard a sight that I found and though was the correct one before checking the references one last time. The shape is correct in the front and back, but it has the damn rectangle hole in the back! This means it could be used by bondo-ing the hole, especially since there is a screw that goes there on the E-11, but now I'm reluctant to put it for sale!

it's always crazy to me how many variations we ca find on vintage items!
cheers

I just took a look at the sight I pulled off my Ro-72 and found the same variation. Though there were so many Ro-72s and E-11s with that greeblie in ROTJ that its probably likely both types had been used.

Obviously it’s just eyeballing it and not definitive , but this looks like the variant greeblie to me.
