ED-209 by Moderoid

Having gotten Cain and then seeing OOP ED-209, I was bummed to see the crazy prices ED commanded on the secondary market. Thankfully Moderoid has re popped him and I picked one up for a pittance via BBTS. Thankfully I got in on the pre order as, at least last month, they were sold out already! Anyhoo, as with their other kits everything is molded in color and highly posable. Given as I want to paint him, I have built up as much as I can before painting sub assemblies. The lower legs will be painted last as they will need some seem work that can’t be done until attached to the upper leg and a lot of painting seem work and assembling has to be done first. Essentially the whole model will be built and painted except the lower legs.
Some mods are, the antennas on the top, I carved off and will replace with some wire covered in heat shrink tubing. There are some rubber tubing for the arms that I have mini braided metal tubin replacements, some photo etch for the mouth and some small ‘handles’ made of wire, and finally on the feet under the toes I am putting very small wires to replicate the miniature, as well as sanding down the hard edges on the feet as in the movie it’s all a bit smoother edged. Any other ideas are welcome!

Looks cool. How big are these?

Just finished building mine. They're chunky and hefty...probably 8.5 inches tall.

Not a huge fan of the colors. Think the blue is too light and the struts on the back are gray when they should be a steel/aluminum color...ordered some Tamiya light sea gray and flat aluminum for that. I also think the front "toes" are a bit longer than the studio model, but they're not egregious.

Overall, pretty nice kit, though it needs paint imho. The Robocop2/Cain kit is probably slightly better (besides the minigun).

Yeah, def needs paint, but beyond that it is pretty nice. And yes, Cains mini gun stank, I rebuilt mine.

Same here…

The only other thing I didn’t like was that his right hand wasn’t fully articulated. I wish they had molded the finger segments separately and attached them with pegs. Not a big enough deal for me to mod it, just a minor gripe.

One of these days I plan to get an ED-209. Problem I've seen in the past, the nice ones are super expensive, and everything else is like a cheap toy.
Like nothing in between. Maybe now there is. Haven't looked in a while.

Damn you Too Much Garlic ! I cut from the inside using the peg holes, I then slid the front of the toe back and glued it to the same size as the side toes. Tamiya 2 part putty is laid on and basic shaped. As I had not planned on this mode I assembled the front toe bottom to the foot and as I am using MEK it is welded good, so figuring the best way to cut where I need and re assemble is well, to be figured out. Though it wasn’t planned I am glad I did it because it was really off and I think throws off the whole thing as far as the baby chick look it can have.

Have you rough fit it yet to see if there’s any effect on stability? Damnit, now I’m sitting here thinking of that tube of green stuff I’ve got and wondering if I could use that not just to mod that toe but to also put a little weight in the feet…

Oh wow - that seems like a majorly obvious mistake in the kit. I've had both the Horizon and Argonauts vinyl Eds and both had all 3 toes the same length.
Good opportunity for a 3D printed aftermarket option here!

I never even knew about these models. Would have got the Cain model for sure, but it seems they started out at a decent enough price, but are now way too expensive for a plastic kit?
Is the good smile company model different to the moderoid kit?
I'll have to do some research on them.
