Ebay scammer!

What a Jack Ass..

Maybe the free props section should be in the Off-Topic area so only members can have them.

I suggest going ahead and send bidders a link to the free downloadable files.

Also the RPF should look into the possibility if this person is a Member here, and IF so, Ban him..

A tip from someone that's been warned before... If the seller finds out that someone has contacted thier bidders for whatever reason, and I do mean WHATEVER reason, they can/will complain to Ebay and you will either receive a warning or could have your account closed. I tried to warn someone that was bidding on a supposed screen used Trek item and the jello-for-brains buyer told the seller who reported me... ended up with a warning that remains permanently on my "record".

you could post an exact same auction for $0.02 :D
no rule against that is there ??

i dont know who i would fault more, the fool who took something that was to be shared for free and profit from it... or the fool who buys it...

no... wait...

its deffinately the idiot that pays 50 bucks for a piece of paper. :p

so although it is rather lame of him, i dont know if it calls for more than an RPF warning, as surfergeek has warned, even helping buyers avoid scammers on Ebay can sometimes cause troubles for you with your own Ebay standing... its lame, but yeah.

get the word out here and to your friends that this is something that can be had for free.

and yes, we need to flood ebay with these things for .01 ... :p

that would be hillarious.

I dunno about putting it in OT.

But maybe we could find a way to watermark free paper prop photos or distort scale, something, when posted here and then anyone interested could PM the originator for a copy without watermarks? That way it's handled through the RPF member PM system and related attachments so lurkers can't just copy paste.

Any that show on ebay at some point, had to originate from a member here.

I'm gonna get this moved over to prop forum. that's where the prop originated and we may get more input. hate to see LeMarchand - marc reluctant to share further cool stuff because of one lurking profiteer.

thanks for the heads up. I noticed the auction yesterday as i have been scanning ebay for the prop on a regular basis since i shared my version here.

I am not 100% sure it is mine as there appear to be differences (the logo on the back is reversed and lower, although that could be intentional)

the pics in the auction are of too low quality to be sure.

cheers and again, thanks for the vigilance

People who wants to make money from other's people work... What a shame... We shoud think about a way to protect the free paper prop thread, but, at the moment, I don't know how... The PM way it's quite good, but if there is a big request, the work to send the files will be huge...
Maybe a password protected file stored in a specified area of the forum? (I'm new, so I'm ignorant about the forum features...)
Ideas?

ive thought for a while that we need some other sections that dont allow non members to view...

for one...

the JY as a whole, i dont understand why its in plain sight for anyone who may be anyone working for anyone, might stumble across something that may cause a problem... for... someone.

and DEFFINATELY the free paper props or any shareware type stuff, like synopsis's games (pretty sure thats his name) should AT THE VERY LEAST be put in the OT. (so only members can see/use)

or a whole new section for sales of certain items that are a little more in need of being "off the radar"

like keep the JY there, but only allow sales of personal one item things, or liscensed pieces, while another section for MEMBERS ONLY could contain a prop store of sorts, for the more sensative items that arent so much... "one of a kind" and more on the, "large run" scale...

does no one else feel that something like this would be a little safer, easier to keep within the group, and trace if it gets out kinda thing?

i think it deffinately is a long time comming, and worthy of thought/discussion by the mods.

I think changing the free paper prop threads here is just giving too power to people like this (is anyone really buying it at that price? - so is he really making money.) And on top of that no one seems sure that it is the same one. While even making this is beyond my skills it does not seem overly complicated, and even LeMarchand isn't sure it is his. It just seems we may be over-reacting. While he may have taken something free and sold it, I guess that makes him a scum, but he isn't taking money or hurting someone here so it seems an over-reaction. I am not excusing his behavior, it is a crappy thing to do (if it is indeed a copy) but for me (just on a personal level) it would only be " a crime" if he was taking buisness/money from someone else (that's why this is a different then recasting to me).
I get free things handed to me all the time at comic conventions and see them for sale on ebay, is that any different really?
When I worked at Top Cow we gave out free comic at conventions and would see them for sale 10 minutes later. We could have been offended that they were stealing from us, but it didn't work because it was free, in order to steal something (and do something "wrong") they had to be taking something of value from us. They were free things, thus by nature, of no value (in a money arena). It made them cheap, and maybe greedy - but hardly a crime.
I don't know it just seemed like a strong reaction considering no one even knows if it is the same. Not trying to argue anything here, or defend him. I just saw this and wanted to respond. I have seen free ID's being offered here, but I end up buying them from someone at comic cons - not because I could not get them free but because I have a crappy printer, and it is worth it for me to spend a few bucks and have it printed and laminated. I don't worry that these are "originals" as they are all copies from a screen used, and I have no realistic way of checking. Hopefully I have not been doing something "bad". I suppose I never considered that before, I just know that if I give away something for free, someone may sell it after they get it. That seems true for anything in life. It shows poor character or integrity of the person selling it, maybe, but I don't know how harsh that judgement should be.
Once again, not defending this person. As a poor prop collector I love the free paper prop threads, and in fact worry about people like this ruining them for everyone. That is why I wanted to speak up.

I think with items that are give-away premiums, the creator is always credited -- or at least their name is out there. If someone buys a Top Cow comic that was free, they usually know it was free, and the Top Cow name is still on the comic.

I don't see what's so harsh about the response -- my auction does nothing but raise money for a charity and provide a method for a do-it-yourselfer to not pay almost $50 for it. I sell my paper props on eBay regularly, and many have gone for $40. And ANYONE is welcome to jump on eBay and undercut me. But if they create their own pieces, they'll quickly understand that the work it takes to make a paper prop can be just as much, if not more, than the work it takes to make a plastic piece.

Maybe this guy's on the up and up -- but judging from his other auctions, I'm doubting it.

I don't understand. How is this a scam?

LeMarchand just said it looks like it may not be his.

So just because we have free stuff here, it's bad that someone else may create the same prop on their own and sell it? If this guy did make his own then who are we to say he cannot sell them for whatever price he wants?

Or am I missing something else here?

I'm a little confused :confused

Edit - I just read everything here again. So is it because of the high price and insane shipping costs? I still don't see a scam in there, lunacy maybe though. With shipping like that, will he really sell any?

$19.00 for shipping a piece of paper???

If this is on the up and up, I doub t they would have some crazy price like that..

If it quacks and walks like a duck...
