eBay Expands Its Anti-Gun Policy

Better go bid on that Greedo Killer flash suppressor now if you ever plan on needing one, kids.

Years ago, eBay banned the sale of all complete firearms on its online auction and shopping website. However, they did continue to allow the sale of parts and many accessories. This week, a spokesman for eBay announced that the company would ban the sale of all gun-and-ammunition-related parts and components.

The ban is set to begin in mid-August, when eBay will prohibit the listing of “any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun.” This prohibition will include, according to eBay, “bullet tips, brass casings and shells, barrels, slides, cylinders, magazines, firing pins, trigger assemblies, etc.” In explaining the decision to restrict these items, Matt Halprin, eBay’s Vice President, Trust & Safety, said, “After much consideration, the Trust & Safety policy team – along with our executive leaders at eBay Inc.– have made the decision to further restrict more of these items than federal and state regulations require.” [emphasis added]

Parts like that may slip through. The key words in that statement are, "required for the firing of a gun". Flash suppressors aren't really "required" for a gun to fire.

Seems ludicrous to me. I can see requiring buyers to hold and provide proof that they possess the necessary gun permits as required by law, as a condition of the sale. But, if gun ownership is legal and provided as a right by law...then restricting the sale or auction of legal parts, while responsibly cautious, seems a bit drastic.

Oh dont even get me started on any political stuff......

just go watch the Penn and Teller Bullsh*t episode about gun control.... i mirror their sentiments about it.....

ridiculous..... even more so that his "explanation" doesnt explain anything

We're about a year out from an airsoft ban too I think. Blank firing replicas have been quietly banned for a few months now.

I wonder how much the VT massacre played into their decision.

I agree with the ban (for the most part) to be honest. It's eBay's site and if they feel that they don't want to facilitate arms manufacturing in any way then that's up to them. There's other markets if you want to obtain real weapon parts.

Let's just hope they don't extend it to replicas/replica parts.

from the sounds of it, they are. i had read , i think on here, that someone said they were cracking down on replica stuff too, as they could be mistaken for real guns.

it all sounds stupid to me.

I expect soon that the airgun world will have banned guns.
China is shipping tons of powerful, cheap rifles to USA, without even serial numbers on them.

Buy them while you can.

We match target shoot. Here is a few from our collection.

I have seen the posting on the NRA as I go there on a daily basis but I haven't seen the Penn And Teller BullSh*t program about gun control. Not to get political but could someone please fill me in on what they had to say? Thanks

Darn I'll never find a gun or gun parts ever again...

Search butcher knife, sword, spear, axe, etc. on eBay.

Hypocrisy anyone?

MOst of the ebay sellers who sold parts on ebay, also sold parts on gunbroker.com (which is ebay for guns) so you'll still be able to get parts, don't panic!

In fact I've had nothing but great experiences on gunbroker, and I can't say the same about ebay, and I've been using them for just about the same amount of time.

To be frank i can't understand the prohibition of sales of firearms or parts of firearms to adults at all anyway where it is legal to own such things it's a bit like banning the sale of cars incase someone uses it criminally it's insane.

I thought you had to have a FFL to buy from gunbroker?

Why did you think that? It's not a dealer site or anything, it's just like ebay, ony with guns.

You just have to ship firearms through an FFL, you don't need one to buy a gun from a seller, but you need that seller to ship the firearm TO your local FFL to handle the proper paperwork (and yes, they charge you for that) But to buy grips, or barrels, or screws, or springs, or magazines or whatever you want, they ship that stuff directly to you. The airsoft guns and denix replicas and things they sell over there can be shipped right to your home.

I think you need an FFL to sell firearms on the site, but maybe not. Maybe you can just sell the gun through an FFL the same way you have the seller ship your purchase to one. You have to give the seller your FFL's numbers and whatnot before it can be shipped. Until moving to Atlanta I had 3 FFL's in Tampa that I used regularly for shipping.

Yes, you sell the firearm with the help of a FFL that needs to do the paperwork for the Interstate transfer... But, depending on your State laws you might not even need to involve a FFL at all if it's a local in person transfer... In Illinois you only need to exchange your Firearm ID card numbers when selling guns to another party...

But, that is only for firearms, and receivers other gun parts and even ammunition and powder (depends on state) can be sold without any FFL intervention...

The normal rate is about $20-$40 and almost all gun shops will do it, but you might find better deals by searching around a site like www.gunsamerica.com (http://www.gunsamerica.com/FFLSearch.htm) that has a list of Internet transfer friendly FFL dealers
