Depending on the weather and how things play out with some of my suppliers, I might be in need of one of those tables.

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

Steve, is there a shortage of tables? I may have one or two I could bring.

And again, I'm voting the 23rd so I don't have to use up a vacation day that I might not be able to get anyway. :)

Glad you'll be there! I've got something I borrowed which I still need to return. :)

Any ideas when we'll know the finalized date? I need to ask for that day off from work.

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

Still collecting feedback, so no date set yet, but I am on it. The 23rd seems to be the most-popular date so far.

The tables are unlimited. They probably have 100+ stacked there, so you can use as many as you want.

We have had 80+ people with tables in there and just barely filled the room up, so there is plenty of floor space.

The $20 cost is for the room rental, food, drinks, snacks, electricity (they charge for that) etc. I usually end up covering any remaining balance due and that is fine...I plan for it.

I suppose that if anyone wants to just "mill" and not eat, that would be free. Check with me when you arrive, so I know.

I just don't want 60 people showing up and saying they want to "mill".
I will get stuck with a big bill.

Ya know?

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

Whether I eat or not, you're still getting $20 from me. It's the very least I can do in return for you setting all this up. I'm really excited. I had a blast at the party in York a couple autumns ago, and that was only a dozen or so people.

Thanks again to Seth for setting that one up.

Steve: Don't underestimate the stinginess of the Nerd Crowd. The last time I sponsored a Michigan Prop Party, you would not believe the lengths RPFers were going to in order to avoid Myxlplykt when he came around to collect the $5.00 admission. The one we had been advertising since day one of the preparations.

Short arms and deep pockets [full of badly cast phasers and inexpensive paper props], that's this crowd. The best and lasting moment was listening to a swarthy version of the comicbook guy whine that the prior year we'd had pizza. As he slurped on the free can of soda we'd provided.

Of course, times are tough, here in Michigan. :cry

Of course, this was four years ago. :angry

Anyway, I'd advise putting the cashbox by the door under guard or you will end up stuck with a huge bill.

Maybe if you set D.Z. up with a set of bolos.... :eek

Yikes, was it that bad? :unsure

I had a great time at the first one, Lonnie. And I always enjoy hanging out with you and Mix. And Jediteddy is always a big help and an all around classy dame. :love And it always tickles me to watch the geeks slobbering on themselves when Cutest Predator goes striding around.

But yeah, it was bad enough that the self-entitled crowd turned me off to the M.I.P.P. forever.

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

I'd love to drag my Firefly/Serenity collection out of the basement to take up three or so tables worth of space.
The 23rd is the best date.
And I'd gladly pay twenty bucks for the privilege.

Mostly, I'd need to convince my wife that leaving her at home to go to a prop get-together is a better use of a Memorial Day Weekend day than rooting around doing yard work or house repairs.

A couple of questions:
What hours does this usually run from, when to when?
Any prop company reps, like from QMx?
Far as displays, how secure should they be?
(That is to say, is there a history of stuff growing legs and walking off?)
Any activities or is it more geared toward getting acquainted and shooting the breeze?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

Yikes, I forgot that the 23rd was Memorial day weekend.

Is everybody ok with that? It keeps popping up here and in e-mails as the most-selected date.

The time is Saturday from 11am ish to about 5pm. We get the room for 6 hours plus set-up/breakdown time.

AFAIK, we have never lost a prop in the what? 7 or 8 parties that have been held over the years?

We HAVE had kids meander around and break other folks' items, so if you bring young children, they MUST be managed accordingly.

I remember I had to repair JPR's $4000 pulse rifle after an unattended child picked it up off a table and promptly dropped it three feet onto the concrete slab. He was not amused.

A number of out-of-towners usually come Friday night and stay at one of the local hotels. We always hold a pre-party dinner on Friday night. That is far less hectic than Saturday (which is crazy nuts). There is always a Saturday evening dinner as well. It is always fun to walk into the restaurant and say: "Table for 45 please."

We have even had Sunday brunches for the people who just wouldn't leave...

I think I am qualified to field questions about SD Studios, Master Replicas or QMx. I have had SOME involvement with those companies :)
I obviously can't discuss any proprietary info, but general replica questions are pretty easy to answer.

So...May 23rd?

I think that's why it IS such a good weekend for everybody. I'm totally down for the 23rd. If I can get my butt in overdrive and finish my commissions early, then hopefully I'll have enough time to finish my 100% metal E-11 to bring (finished or not, I'll probably still bring it). I still need a scope and Hengstler for it, so if anyone has any they want to sell, bring them along to the party.

Re: East Coast prop party! Yup, this time for real...

I have no problem doing it Memorial Day weekend.

The bridge will NEVER be done. as fast as they fix it, the quarry truck drivers run their tri-axles over it and destroy it again.

They even put up a big steel bar so that no truck over 10 feet could go past it.

Someone just drove right through it and kept going... :lol

Ok, MAY 23rd.

So let it be written, so let it be done.
