Earth Alliance (Babylon 5) uniforms

Hello, all. Just wondering if there's anyone that does or knows of someone that's tackled these uniforms, or has pictures of screen-used ones, or info on how to construct one of these.

Thanks in advance.

Not much info out there when i was looking to have one made.

Although I always wanted a psi corps one. :love

Considering the popularity of this series, and the prominence of the EA uniforms I am surprised that there seems to be a dearth of reproductions out there.

Hey is it really ten years since the series finished? I am getting so old :wacko

Yeah, I'm amazed that there hasn't been more repros of this uniform. There's not even a lot of information on how these puppies are constructed or anything.

I was surprised the Official B5 Fan Club, which sold replica EA badges and Ranger pins, didn't sell patterns like Lincoln/Roddenberry.

I've longed to have a good EA uniform, either series version or pilot version.

I know one person has one EA that's on this board.

Hopefully he will see this.

From what I remember they were not to hard todo, theJacket being the toughest.

I'd love one of the Army of Light costumes, but the chances of coming up with the many proper fabrics would be very tough.

They had a display of B5 costumes at the SciFi Museum for a short time. Delenn, G'Kar, Londo, EA jacket, and AOL Uniform.

Maybe someone snapped some pics.

That's a tough one.

My friend knew Bruce Boxleitener well enough to get, I think her name was Anne or Anna, who was the costume designer on the show to give him the lowdown on the fabrics.

Even with the info. the costume was a bear to make and if I remember most of the fabric was gone or impossible to find and this was when the series was still running.

FYI, On one of the special features on the DVDs there is a close up shot of the design specs for the AOL Uniform. It shows the swatches of fabrics for each piece.

Here's a photo of some of my original B5 uniforms. The EA uniform is one of the background CIC officers.

Reproducing the costumes wouldn't be deathly difficult, given we have so many different angles of them. Personally, I'm much much more interested in the idea of the Psi Corp uniforms.

Know this is an old thread, but the lady in the Uk made officially licenced B5 uniforms - both EA and rebel was Janet Lawn of Lawn costumes.

I got in contact with her recently and she doesnt have any of the patterns or fabrics any more.

shame as there are virtually no good closeups of the fabrics....yes on dvd perhaps, but i dont have access to any programmes to screengrab them!

Just checking to see if anyone has an update on anyone "good" that can make a Season 3 jacket and pants. After much searching, I have found out to stay away from certain costumers and was hoping to find someone reliable.
I know this is a very old thread but you never know what has happened since the last post.

Thanks
Jake

I'm trying to put some Earth Force uniforms together for Loscon at LAX this year. I have a costume swatch card for the "blue", but it's Garibaldi's color that's really aggravating! I can't tell if it's a Brown or Gray, or maybe a Taupe?

Any help on Garibaldi's fabrics would be appreciated!!

I have an Earth Alliance jacket and overjacket made by Janet Lawn that I bought in 1997 at Wolf 359. The fabric trim on the overjacket has deteriorated a lot, but the other textiles are quite good still.

These are images provided to me by starbuc from show worn uniforms he had at the time, hope these help.

I wanted a security uniform for myself and hired a young seamstress for the project. She picked the wrong colour for the uniform Zack wears but I felt ot was a reasonable match to Garabaldi's uniform colour. I chose the first season as they had the full cuffs at the end of the sleeve. She used marine quality pleather for the cuffs, waist, epaulettes and front panel. She made the front panel too wide but there was no time to fix it before the convention. I still want one like Zack's early seasons one.
I felt that a good pattern to emulate the EA jackets was what is called the "Eisenhower jacket" based on the uniform jacket worn by Eisenhower during WW 2. Here is an example if it,

Obviously the lapels, collar and pockets need to be changed but I thinnk you can see why I thought it was a good place to start.

Here are a few images of the uniform I had made, turns out I wasn't the only B5 fan there. Please excuse the stunned bunny look on my face.

I couldn't find anywhere that sold the jacket buckle or at least no company that would reply to my many emails so I decided to scratchbuild all the buckles, badges, rank pins and metal pips myself. The pips were the easiest once I decided on a size. I simply cut them out of brass plate stock, sanded away the rough edges and polished them to a level that looked the closest to the ones on the show. The metal parts were sulled down for the camera so I went with that look. The buckle, EA badge and rank bar for Garadaldi were first scrathbuilt out of cardboard to see if I could do it and then made out of sheet styrene and styrene strips. Once they were filled in and sanded I used them to make silicone molds so I could pour resin and make them. This is also the very first time I have made molds and poured resin into them. I was very pleased with the results considering it was my first time.

Here are some images of the process,

To give Grabaldi's shorter rank bar the right texture in the center I glued in a strip of emery paper to simulate look.

I think the rank bar came out pretty well. I only had to give them a gloss coat to finish these ones.

I made a few extra sets of rank pips jacket buckles and sold them to fellow B5 cosplayers, all very happy with their purchases. This is one of the resin jacket buckles painted and mounted on the uniform for a chap in the States.

About 20 odd years ago I did purchase a EA jacket buckle from one of those long gone mail order places and this is what I got,
Old buckle both sides.jpg

As you can see it was raised detail and was flat as opposed to being slightly curved to fit better around the actors waist. Still at the time this was all there was out there. I attend the local con and met a metal worked who did brass castings. We talked about the buckle and I gave him a 2nd rate casting to use in one of his lost wax casting. We had discussed the details and I had provided him with tons of reference and images. Sadly he disregarded most of the things I tild him and gave me this for $90.

He made it twice as thick as I asked him to and instead of mounting standard mounting pins he soldered on two 3/16ths screws to attach it to the costume. The curve is way too rounded and I'll have to heat it to try and fix that but will probably discolour the front doing so. It still serves as a good example of what it could look like though. I had hoped I could also get him to cast a few Army of Light belt buckles but gave that up with the issues I had with the EA buckle. A friend had sent me his fan made buckle and I scanned it and made some drawings so it could be scratchbuilt and used as a master for a metal cast.
