I am not super-familiar with the Yamato universe, so I say spoilers even though he does not go into deep detail or anything. It's more of a "fans were worried and I'm here to tell you it's not that bad" kind of thing.
He also talks about how certain familiar plot lines from the series are used in the movie (it's a combination of this and that). He also talks about whether to expect certain effects shots or set designs.

Well, it's been out, got passable to decent reviews and everyone has said it's a fun ride. Now we need a worldwide release and especially to a theater in my town.

More like Funimation since ADV is defunct and out of business now and Funimation seems to be the powerhouse in the anime industry here, at least it was a few years ago which was when I was last current with the state of the industry here.

Abrams took a lot of Whedon's ideas on how to depict space and space combat. Watch any ep of Firefly that is space heavy and then watch Abrams' Trek again. You'll see. I'm not faulting Abrams since he took several good ideas and improved on them, just sayin' I've got a good idea of where he started from.

Fixed. My wife and I watched the show from it's premiere night through the last aired episode and then nearly wore out the DVD's when they came out. When we went to see Serenity the theater was almost packed.
