eagle kit info

He sold off a bunch of his kits and stuff on various yahoo SS groups a while back. So I knew he was cooling down or leaving the hobby but I didn't know he owed people.

Hey,

Has this thread died for Space:1999 Eagle building?

Looks like I missed alot, but are y'all still adding to this thread?

Rob.

Hey folks,

I have a CNC lathe and will be able to produce turned parts for models. One of the first projects (the reason for acquiring a CNC lathe in the first place) will be engine bells for Eagles. I will be starting with the first year 44" Eagle bells and accessories. My setup will allow me to scale parts for any size model and keep the same detail from scale to scale.

Here's the first bells I'll be making:

Eagle #1 Bell

This is a simple MSPaint .bmp I used for DIM labels, but shows the shape of the bells I'll be cutting pretty well.

Ok guys,

I've completed the initial "tester" bell. I know these pictures aren't the greatest, but I've just shot this with a coat of primer and the detail shows up MUCH better! I'll get that posted shortly.

That looks very cool! Excellent job, did you do inside of the bell as well?

I have always wanted to build the studio eagle, even started gathering the parts, but decided it would be just too big. I would be up for a 2 foot one.:$
I thought of taking measurements off of the kit parts and shrinking them down.

Have you started one?

Dave

Hey Dave,

Thank you!

No sir. I haven't cut the interior yet, but that won't be too big a problem. I've been concentrating on an accurate exterior first. These will be made in AT LEAST 3 scales. The ones pictured are for a 44" Eagle. That exact detail will be cut for a 22" Eagle and an 11/12" also. The small ones can be used for the Product Enterprise Eagles. I say "at least" 3 scales because I will also scale this for the 23" Replica's Unlimited Eagle kit and the Product Enterprise 23" collectable Eagle too a little later.

This particular bell design was used on the "First" 44" Eagle seen in the series. The second Eagle's bells are different, but I will be making those in at least 3 different scales also.

Also a little later, I'll be doing some for several other miniatures seen in the show too.....HAWK, Swift, Superswift, leg boosters, spine booster, Ultra Probe, etc. All in different scales as appropriate.

Got it Dave.

Hello Mr. Gene,

Yes, They will be aluminum. Those pictures you see, which don't show any detail well, naturally, are a machining plastic to check that everything cuts right.

Rob.

In that case, I'm interested in a set of the reaction control thrusters for the 4' Eagle nosecone that Chris Trice produced a number of years ago. (Though only two parts, it was hands down the finest casting I have ever seen. Clean and with a degree of precision I would expect only from an aerospace manufacturer.)

Rob, Looks great,

I just got an early Airfix Saturn V and the parts are molded much cleaner than the later ones. Let me know if you want any castings, I know the first stage rocket part goes inside of the engine bells. Plus, the other various parts.

Dave

Hey Dave,

Thank you for the offer of the Sat's sir. I wish I had met you earlier!

Before I'd bought over a dozen AIRFIX Saturn V's that is.......:cry

Sad part is, I'm hanging on to the hope that AIRFIX will re-issue the Saturn V AND Saturn 1-B so I can buy a couple cases of each!

I lucked out when REVELL re-issued the 1/24 Gemini a couple years ago.

(fingers crossed ).

That tank in my avatar is covered with BOTH those kit's parts!

I have the Gemini as well :$

As I mentioned, I was considering the build! Have you started building any of the other parts? Maybe we could work together and cut some costs. I always loved Space 1999, me and my dad watched it together an have many fond memories of it.

I have been re-working the Starlog technical manual with redone illustrations and professional layout software as well. I have been trying to find color photos to replace the b&w ones. :cool

Anyway, let me know. I was laying out the eagle in CAD, so I can dig those up as well.

Dave

Dave,

The Gemini, like the Saturn V, are a couple you CAN NOT have too many of. I start getting concerned if I THINK I'm getting low on inventory of either!

I'm ALWAYS up for ANY Space:1999 build. It's all I do (as a few here know...:cool). Well, except for a Viper and Thunder Fighter I just acquired in a trade. A trade of a Space:1999 item, no less. (Thanks alot SaintG. He's trying his best to convert me into a TOS Galactica builder......:rolleyes).

How far are you on your build? The bell I just posted is the very first thing I've made on a CNC lathe I bought JUST for the specific purpose of making all the needed aluminum parts for Space:1999 models.

I'm working on several other Space:1999 scratchbuilds at the moment too.

Let's talk!

Rob.

I found my CAD files, I had more work done on them that I remember!:lol

Rob, how are you planning on tackling the spine? I figure that this is going to take a lot of work and is probably going to be the hardest part. Any ideas? I am thinking of building a fixture.

I have decided to do the 22" version, I just don't have room for the full sized one. Any idea about the command module? Does Chris still make them for the 22"?
