So I've been asked to make a friend a full Stormtrooper costume and have gotten really into it...have 3d printed the whole suit which I will finish and then probably vacuum form copies from. But that's another thread. I decided that rather than have a toy blaster to troop with maybe I could build a more realistic gun, in terms of look, weight etc So...

okay, okay, so I know it's not completely screen accurate but seeing as they used a WWll Sterling sub-machine gun in a Star Wars universe I figured I could take a few liberties

I also put in a basic blaster sound and red muzzle flash LED for the kids

This gun started out as a room fan, which gave me the 2 main tubes, as well as a lot of odd greeblies from my bits n bobs box. I had such a 'blast' :D doing it, that now I'm tempted to have a go at a rifle. Maybe the Sandtrooper heavy blaster DLT-19? I have an old extendable hoover tube which is just waiting to be upcycled!

I'm all for you creating something from scratch and having fun. That's what this hobby's all about. But I don't think you should be calling it an E-11 or Star Wars blaster. Although it has some similarities, almost every element is not Sterling or E-11.

Please don't get me wrong, Refer to my first 2 sentences and have fun.

I think it looks great and like it belongs in the Star Wars universe. To the average person it would look like a Stormtrooper blaster, it could be a variant or modded version. Like Sith Lord said, build and have fun!

Yeah let's call it a variant then. I am doing a hasbro conversion and putting a plecter labs blaster core in it if I can get one, so I'll have options. I think this one might be too heavy for regular trooping anyway

Speaking of variants...making progress on my version of the DLT-19.

Anyone know the genesis of the star wars gun names/numbers...why E-11 or DL-44, DLT-19?

And made up the bi-pod from an old strut and windscreen wiper from my beloved Celica

Got some leftover metal strips and rods from a clock for the fins

So just the stock and some greeblies to do and then paint it up

So, finished my version of the lovely DLT-19

DSCN0360.JPG

The stock took just about as long to sculpt as the whole of the gun. I'm guessing that shape is called a 'Shark fin' or 'Marlin tail', or something

Gonna build myself one of them mean looking Black Stormtrooper costumes (Shadow trooper?) with the morror eyes to troop with it
