a friend of a friend has Dressing a Galaxy

the rare deluxe super duper boxed version with silk band etc.

for sale because he's got pots of money, bought it on a whim and then said he doesn't like it. The only reason I'm getting first shot at it is because he knows I'm a bit of star wars nut.

now I've not seen this book, never looked in it, but I do have chronicles for both OT and prequels so I know the lucasfilm books are very good.

he's offering it to me for £100 ie about $180

is this worth getting. am I better just getting the normal edition from a book shop for about £35? from amazon.

is it worth paying the extra for the deluxe version?

I'm not a seamstress so beyond going 'ooooh' a lot when looking at the pictures in the book and using it for costuming reference, is there much point in me shelling out for the deluxe version. at £100 is it worth just getting for the sheer collectible angle for a future sell at a higher price?

If you are looking for screen used fabric swatches, the answer is yes. I paid 299 dollars back in 2005 for it.

You will find photos here:

It is a review I did back in time. Hope this helps.

Yep, great book and the selection of samples is very sweet. No two books were alike in that the samples from different costumes varied from book to book. It was still cool seeing the photos of the ones not included as they were still lifesize and very representative of those fabrics. This book is designed for costume buffs, no doubts!!! It was very helpful to me for more than one costume I wanted to create. It sometimes seems like a no brainer that you'll be able to match the on screen look to a particular costume........but when you hit the fabric store..........that goes right out the window. This fabric swatch book which is separate from the main book............is one that you can actually take with you to the fabric stores to select your fabrics. It's such a great help. I didn't buy it for that reason however, I bought it for the collectibility aspect and this was just a superb bonus.............plus you get the cool EpIII wookie buckle. And it is cast out of the same mould as the screen used ones. :)

hmmmm interesting read. I have illusion that the thing is a gorgeous package, but I'm not gonna be making costumes, certainly not. I can't sew to save my life so the fact it comes with swatches etc I suppose is more eye candy and oooh factor than something I'll make more use of.

from the sounds of it, the price is good. $180 dollars sounds like a steal.

Absolutely.......this thing was $350 when they first hit the street if I recall. At least I saw them going for that.
