'Lo all!
Im a fan of budget builds. It astounds me when i come on here and watch people take things like cardboard and make awesome costumes or props lol
Halloween is getting closer and i needed a Judge Dredd helmet for my costume. I had started a comic style pep one ages ago but there was no way i could finish it on time and it isn't good enough with symmetry issues.
After seeing TheDoctor build his dredd helmet using a BMX style helmet from tescos, i really needed to try it! It was a fantastic idea for a good head start!
So i bought the same BMX helmet, took it home, took off the straps and stripped the polystyrene padding so i was left with just a shell. I took careful measurements of what angles i needed the helmet to sit at to make it the right shape and so i could see where to cut for my eye level.
Once i cut the rough shape of the front of the helmet (not including the crosses) i used thick card to shape out the front, sides and back and hardend it with fiberglass. Once cured i slapped on a load of u-pol polyester repair putty. It took two good layers and alot of sanding to get it smooth before i started on the raised edges. Of course, like a complete tool i didnt take any pictures! I literally only have where i am at now, which is the start of the raised area's of the helmet.

I don't think its too bad looking considering ive only spent about six or seven hours on it total! I even put together a really rough mock of what i want it took look like

I did it in like ten minutes so its accuracy is a bit off like lol
