Howdy folks, I haven't posted here in a Long time so I figured I would share my latest build ,The Dragon Age Inquisition Helmet. I originally was going to do a clay sculpt but I am a very slow sculptor ,and I wanted this done for ECCC and when the game comes out, so I went with what I know best which is scratch building it. I chose a hard hat for the dome and then used sintra to do the cheeks and back plates.
This will actually be a co-build with my friend Sarah from red nebula studios- https://www.facebook.com/RedNebulaStudios . She's an excellent artist and sculptor so she'll be doing some of the more detailed pieces like the dragon head and then the mohawk down the center.
After the build is done I'll be molding it and then casting it up so I have a nice solid piece. I'm leaning towards a gelcoat fiberglass but I'll figure that out later.
Anyways in the photos below you can see my very rough assembly just to make sure the proportions are correct. It looks a little to long at this point but it'll come together as I build up the helmet lip and start doing the cheek details.
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Let me know :) Thanks!

Update time. I've been chipping away at the helmet and here is where it's at so far. I worked on getting everything proportionate and getting the cheeks flared out correctly. Sarrah from Red Nebula stopped by with her dragon head sculpt/casting so we could mock it on the helmet. I'm really liking how well it fit. I worked on the cheeks and got the raised edges carved into the sintra via a dremel tool. I added a sliver of 3mm to start the creation of the raised areas in the wings, i'll be using body filler to flesh out the look more and dial in the dragon wing look. In the photos you'll see I also started working on the brim of the helmet. I had cut out 3mm sintra in the oval shape of the helmet and started the process of gluing it on and shaping it to get that correct curvature, I'll be using body filler to help sculpt out the lip of it better which will also help secure it to the helmet as well. It only needs to last long enough to mold so I'm not worried about a permanent adhesion. I tried the helmet on my girlfriend and partner Anabel Martinez to make sure the helmet fit and was also true to the game file, she's a DA fan and a wonderful artist so she's helping me with the direction this project needs to go. So enough talk, here are the photos. Feel free to ask any questions or suggest anything . Thanks :) !

Havn't posted in a bit. But here is my progress so far. I received in the detailed parts in from Sarrah at Red Nebula studious ( dragon scales and dragon scale mohawk) I attached the dragon scale mohawk by removing the hard hat mohawk and tacked it down. Once I got that all straight I worked on getting the tail piece done and fitted to the back helmet lame. I then removed the side pieces on the helmet to attach the scale detail pieces. I'm also working on sculpting out the raised areas on the cheeks to help bring out the wing detail more.
Let me know what ya all think! :)

So I've spent quite a bit of time getting this to the mold stage. Almost there. Gotta clean up a few details , and then figure out how to mold it. I've molded Mandalorian style helmets before, but nothing like this. Any suggestions? 1533899_435929453201923_1510689172_n.jpg 1555270_435929513201917_590715223_n.jpg 1609843_435929466535255_191927801_n.jpg

I got the Dragon Age Inquisitor helmet all finished up and ready for Molding. Here's a pic of the helmet before I break it down to it's respective parts for mold prep. I'll be setting up a sales thread in the Junkyard for anybody who would like to purchase a casting.

Spent the weekend getting the helmet molded. Took three days as there were four separate molds and I wanted to get it right the first time. Huge thanks to Sarrah from Red Nebula Cosplay for the detail sculpts and helping build the molds. Gonna pull the first casting in the next day or so.

Yesterday I pulled the first casting from the mold. Came out pretty good I think. Definitely have some problems areas with slush casting it. The brim and the rear lower brim are a pain. Might try a brush in gelcoat. Not sure, got to figure the cost.
Let me know what ya all think :)

Here's a pic of the four molds we had to do for this and one of the helmet completely done. Been a fun and educational process. Enjoy :)
