Just wrapped this up for a local guy. This is one of those kits where ya go...I cant do any more on this!!! I give up...it is good enough!

The sculpt is amazing and soooo damn heavy but the casting...well...a little poor. Every time I did something to it i noticed more problems. I did grind off the wing detail and re-did all of it!

Once again amazing BIG sculpt.

Hope ya like

Dean

That looks GREAT!!!!:thumbsup

I have one of those kits which iam about to start on and i was wondering what did you use for the base color.

Again outstanding work!!

Dean,

Sorry you were a little dissatisfied with the casting- this thing was a bear to get made. I had intended to do the casting in a pressure pot, but I was unable to access one that was big enough!

However, you certainly made it look amazing!

As far as base color goes, I recommend:
Polly Scale Model Railroad Colors
D&RGW ORANGE F414254 (1oz bottle) for the base color
SAND F414302(1 oz bottle) for highlights
(available at most hobby shops, particularly ones that carry model railroading supplies)

Great looking model!
I remember as a kid I was getting Gil Gerard's Autograph at a grand-opening of a shopping mall, and I gave him one of these Draconian Marauder kits all built up, I think they were AMT a long time ago, but the color was spot on! This one really brings back memories...looks like it has more detail, very nice!

Great story- I wonder if he still has it?

Yea, the 'salmon' color of the original Monogram kit was actually a VERY good match for the base color. There is a lot of 'weathering' of lighter colors on top of that, but overall a very good match.

Its not an easy paint job to get to look right- its very easy to get the whole thing too dark and too orange-y as you weather it down, but Dean really captured it!
