Dr Who Cyberman Voice Changer Conversion WIP

Here I will document my progress as I continue to heavily modify my Character Options Cyberman voice changer into a more faithful representation of the helmet. For starters I ripped out all the electronic bits as I wasn't interested in the lights and voice unit, I want this to be a static replica although I will leave room inside if I ever change my mind (likely)

These helmets are actually based on a scan of an original helmet, well one side of it anyway, so they are perfectly symetrical, the originals however are not and I will be trying to re-incorporate some of those characteristic 'flaws' as I go.

The most basic steps to get me underway were filling in any 'airholes' in the helmet like the 3 along the cheek on the right hand side as you look at the helmet, you can see from the photos that I filled them in, I used Isopon p38. I also cut out 2 x 33mm disc's of .75mm styrene which I then pushed into the eye sockets, the eyes on the voicechanger have small 'steps' which are not present on the screen used helmets.

So with those steps out of the way I set about building up the back section of this 3/4 helmet, I used cardboard to mock up a very rough back to act as support for the layers of filler I would be chucking on it, once this was in place I started filling over it and it is now begining to take shape nicely.

Another mod I made was to lengthen the bottom chin, on the voice changers it is too short so I cut a piece of 0.5m, styrene the same shape as the original chin with a further 10mm in length at the bottom and glued it over the existing chin, it is now a case of me using filler to blend it all in together, I am at the moment about to apply a very light primer coat to see how it all looks so enjoy the photos for now, but please stay tuned :thumbsup

Thanks, with a bit of work these helmets can look great, I may even try and produce a cold cast version once all the mods are done

Today I have started filling all the tiny seam lines and carried on building up the chin area, I am very happy with how its all coming together at this stage! :thumbsup
