Following on from the Christmas episode of Dr Who there was a short 'Coming Soon' trailer shown, here we can discuss the contents of said trailer and speculate as to whats to come for the next season of Dr Who, spoilers are welcome here.
Spoilers Below:

We can see that River Song returns, happy about it? Personally no, I think
she's quickly losing her novelty value, there appear to be no classic monsters in the trailer (Daleks/Cybermen) and I read a rumour that none would appear in this season.

We see the Doctor in a large hangar, shackled to a chair,he has a beard and looks a bit rough, he also appears to be a prisoner and in the background it looks like it says area 51 on the side of the hangar, there are numerous other shots of men in black types. Another rumour I read points to the Doctor being cloned by an invading alien race, along with the TARDIS. I may be wrong but I thought I saw a man in black, with an 'Alien' head and hands, like your typical alien, big head, black eyes etc.

Amy is shown wandering around what looks like an abandoned house, its dark, she has a torch, later on is a clip which looks like it may be from the same episode, she is screaming and has strange marks on her face, like scratches, River Song also has these marks in a brief clip of her, probably from the same ep.

Rory is shown running down a corridor, later on in an identical corridor we see an Ood, its eyes are red, it may be chasing him and Amy?

The Doctor appears wearing a stetson, this is then shot off of his head, the way the clip is edited suggests its River Song who shoots.

The Doctor is shown in the oval office of the white house, he is sat at the presidents desk, there are men pointing guns at him.

I'm sure there is more but I can't remember exactly now, anyone else?

They show him in the american southwest which would fit in with the location of Area 51...

They're also apparently splitting the season in two. 6-7 episodes in the spring, cliffhanger ending until fall(?) when the last 5-6 episodes showing then and concluding the season.

I'm glad they are giving the daleks and cybermen a rest, the Ood are back i see, with green eyes and ball thingy this time.

I'm still not thrilled with Matt Smith, though I liked the Christmas Special more than his first season on. I loved Eccleston, and Tennant was amazing enough to surpass him. But I think Tennant was too good for Smith to follow.

We shall see.

As for Torchwood, I'm terribly sad about the reduced crew, but I love John Barrowman enough to watch almost no matter what.

I agree that River is becoming a bit annoying. I know she's Moffat's character, but it feels like he's pushing her onto us way too much and in a fashion that just isn't fun. Hopefully, her arc will be completed this season, but I really wish her character wasn't expanded upon.

Glad to see that Who is finally doing some episodes in America. It'll be a nice change of pace, as long as the story/stories are written well.

And did anyone else notice how poorly the hat came off of Smith's head? Seems like the string that was attached to it was pulled on too hard and it got tangled on or hit that string while falling. :lol

Bah! River haters!

I actually really like River, but I hate that we're going to "know everything" this season. One of the interesting things is that I mapped both River's timeline and The Doctor's timeline and they're meeting in exactly the opposite order!

There are a quite a few rumors regarding River:
- We're going to see the first time River meets the Doctor this season.
- The "Great Man" River kills is not the Doctor, but JFK.

Also, rumor has it that we're going to run into another Time Lord this season (one whom The Doctor knew, but has since regenerated).

Don't forget that The Doctor orders a Fez (along with a Swat Team, some Jammie Dodgers and some other stuff).

Also... The TARDIS from "The Lodger"!!! I saw that they're not exactly the same (there's some variation in colors), but it's 95% the same.

Rumor has it that we're going to see a future version of The Doctor (probably Matt Smith from a future point) who recruits River and Amy to rescue Current Timeline Doctor.

I have so many ideas to who River is. I love her character, and I really want to know who she really is but Im scared it may be something bad.

Indeed, another of the scenes shows the inside of what looks remarkably like a TARDIS console room, I immediately thought of the time machine control room from the season 5 episode 'The Lodger'

Another rumour points to the fact that the original Cybermen 'may' return, possibly in the second half of the season in an episode set in ancient Egypt, there has been talk of the art department being asked to design mummified Cybermen based on the classic design.

I still think River Song is the Rani. The name "Rani" means "My Song."

Y'know, I'm with you on the whole River's a Time Lady in disguise thing, it could work well, but I can only think of TWO Time Ladies who wouldn't have gotten recalled to Gallifrey during the Time War, and The Rani isn't one of them. (Unless she did the whole Chamelian Arch thing, but really?)

Romana was trapped in E Space, with no TARDIS, and Susan was trapped on future Earth, again with no TARDIS. I imagine that The Doctor was likely to pick Susan up for such an important thing (and I really don't like the idea of her calling the Doctor "Sweety"), leaving only Romana.

Then there's the issue of "How does the Doctor not recognize her" though...

Yeah, I'm thinking Chameleon Arch or something similar.

I think you're forgetting what happened to River in Forest Of The Dead

No, in fact I'm remembering it in great detail. The Doctor felt that her life was SO VALUABLE that her consciousness needed to live on, even after death. As much as he loves the human race, he doesn't consider any of them that important. There is, however, an established history of keeping the minds of Time Lords stored in a computer.

(See, I'm not grasping at straws with this. ;) )

That one was technically for series 5 though, wasn't it? I think a new thread for a new series is justified.
