my local costume shop is selling
what i think is the vader don post (classic action maybe?) helmet(its big)
and the red royal gaurd helmet from don post(in box, wrapped in plastic)

can anyone give me some general prices these are going for?

they are selling them for 100- each, not sure if thats good or not

If they ARE actually the Don Post Classic Action and the Royal Guard, they are worth that (the Vader is worth MUCH more, at least 3 times that). Keep in mind though, it might be the smaller Don Post Standard, or the Rubies Supreme helmet, both of which are worth around $40 on Ebay. Keep in mind that the Vader CA hasnt been made since 97, so if its new stock its probably a Rubies Supreme.

Well, im not sure, the vader looks rather old, the royal gaurd looks legit(old box, stamped don post/lucasfilm).

How exactly can I tell what vader it is? Is there a specific stamp or something i can look for?
(Its hanging on a wall they need a ladder to reach it).

Of note, they had several other older rubber star wars masks, are any of those (skiff gaurd, tusken)
worthwhile collectingwise?

I would think the box would say Don Post. If not, you need to unvelcro the top to see the don post mark.

The vader is 'out of box' it appears.

I will see if i can check for the velcro next time im there..
thx

The cheap toy Vader helmet would have a large facemask in relation to the helmet itself. The Don Post CA Vader helmet has a smaller facemask in proportion to the helmet. The toy mask has a long neck. The helmet of the Don post CA is much larger, about 14" wide...and I think about 12" tall...just the helmet. The toy helmet is much smaller...but I don't have the measurements...

Ortiz34,

$100 for a DP classic Action Vader is a good price, not so good for the royal price (although not bad).

However as others have said, if its the Rubies Supreme then don't bother.

Have a look at the "Don Post" section of my site for photos,

Here's the CA

And here's the Rubies

hope this helps

As Jez's pics show, the easiest way to tell if it is a DP CA is to remove the dome and look for the Mr-T style 'mohawk' dome mount. This design is unique to the Classic Action (and its derivatives).

Thanks everyone.

you just found gold. Even tho i will say i saw a DP classic action go for 50 bucks about 2 weeks ago but it had really major warping in the neck. Had to let it go to many bills to pay at the time even to throw of 50 bucks for a CA :cry

Where do you live again? I want to c-block your buy if that is a real CA. :angry

Seriously, if it is, you could turn a tidy little profit with it. Good catch.

ok here is the scoop.

Reads lucasfilm/don post um 1997 i believe, with the heartbreak ridge top /mohawk, but they have issues.

They have 2.

vader1:
1 eye has cracked lens
both tusks appear to be glued on

vader2:
scuffs on helmet
missing both tusks
bottom grill is becoming detached.

top velcro strip on both is detached as well on both ...

What do ya think?

I think, buy both.

The lenses need to be replaced anyway during the helmet's upgrade and the scuffs/loose grill will be taken care of by repainting and adding some better (more accurate) mesh anyway.

What a find. :)

I broke down and got one, took the tusk-less one since it was better shape, took the nicer dome too.

Im probably gonna go get the other one as well, we will see.

Pics coming if i can figure this posting stuff out...
