Well, I'm thinking the handle was added by production.

It might even be cabinet hardware or something.
3S001?
The third Sierra, first copy?

I might be able to help but i don't know when i'll be at my office next. I'm on a long term contract elsewhere so it may be a while.

I wanna say Maxtor - around 80 or 40 gig. But that's psuedo guess work. That bottom weblike pattern looks familar to me and I've got some old maxtor and seagate drives laying around my old office. So i'm guess that era (20-80gb). The only drives we had in-house at that time were seagate, maxtor, and a couple fujitsu.

I could very well be wrong since i'm going off memory, but that's what I recall.

Closest i've found to that bottom:

I've found a number of pics of WD drives with a web texture like that on the bottom. I've seen a couple older maxtor's as well. One that looks much like the one you pictured, but i'm not linking that pic because i can't be sure it actually is maxtor...it's from a how-to article and it never actually refers to the picture...

Now that I think about it, that WD cold be it. I've been looking for a triangular controller card and missed the fact that drive is partially submerged in foam :)
