As some on the RPF are aware, I am in the process of reconfiguring my collection. Among the screen used items I am considering parting with is a Battlestar Galactica colonial blaster, from the original (1978) series. Problem is, I can't find a recent sale from which to extrapolate a value.

Anyone have an idea as to approximate value?

Many thanks!

I've built, painted, sold, traded and bought many over the years. Each year there seem to be more and more copies of them floating around. Depending on the quality of the build, and if it's all static, I'd say about 100.00, though I've seen many go for about 50.00. :unsure

This one is an original, though, not a replica. Gotta be worth a little more than 50 bucks! :lol

Thanks, Oldzey. I will be in contact with Rich. Maybe Chris Pappas?

As for pics / provenance: Once I determine an asking price, I will be happy to provide photos and provenance to interested buyers.

It's hard to determine a valid "ballpark" price without provenance as that's generally the major deciding factor even before condition of the piece.

A fair point, but I am reluctant at this point to describe the prop's full history, given that I haven't yet decided whether I'd actually sell it.

For the purposes of my inquiry, please assume that the item can be readily authenticated. It can be traced back directly to the Universal set. The prop has not left Southern California.

The last one of these I've seen (similar condition / provenance) sold in 1994 for $1200. That was fifteen years ago, and given that some new BSG sidearms returned nearly $2000 at the Propworx auction, my expectation is that the value of an original BSG sidearm is well in excess of that.

I've received a number of PMs with (widely varying) offers. Please note that I'm not soliciting offers at this time. I really am just trying to get a feel for an appropriate price.

My thanks to all who are trying to help. :)

I would say Chris would be able to help you out.

he is actually Auctioning off some of his Screen-used items right now

Thanks, Apollo! That is great news. The email addy I had for him appears to be invalid. Will track him down and hope he can help!

Shoot him a PM here.

Good luck with your sale.

They are one of my favorite props!

I'll trade your iffy "screenused" one for this unpainted rotocast replica I have here. The provenance on that one is rock solid. :sleep

Why would you be reluctant? There is nothing to be lost there and provenance in no secret whether you decide to sell or not. Pics for that matter as well. Why would you tease us so?
