Dollar Store Iron Man Arc Reactor Contest

Do we have to send our finished pictures to anyone once we are done or is it still to early to submit entries?

I'm not quite decided yet. I'm still trying to figure out the most efficient and easiest way to do things. I'm kind of busy at the moment, but will decide on an official entry method soon. My Dad had a heart attack today and is in recovery, so If I don't respond to PMs quickly or you don't see me on here that is why. I will respond to queries ASAP considering the circumstances. Thank you!

I hope your Father gets better. I had the same thing happen to my dad a few years back.

No negativity here! I just wanna see what you fellas come up with!
Cool, I hope that you're impressed, and you should enter, you probably have a few ideas in you. :thumbsup

Question:

I have already purchased a set of battery operated christmas lights from a family dollar store, I got them last christmas for $1.

I have no receipt, but I have already taken pictures of it showing it cost a dollar.

Is this ok to use?

(I hope so cause this is sorta the heart of my planned reactor.)

I need all the time I can get. I went to a dollar store and did not see a single thing I could use for a reactor! On to the next!

By the way, not to nit pick, but at the current exchange rate $20.00 US is 13.93 pounds, and visa versa 20.00 pounds is $28.71 US, so the UK contestants have an advantage of being able to spend more on their entries than the US contestants do. :cry

Anyway, upwards and onwards!

No, not really. If you took your 20$ and went to the UK to buy your stuff at the Pound Store, you would only be able to get 13.93 pounds worth of stuff for your 20$. Only if a UK person came here to the USA would they'd be able to buy 28.71$ worth of stuff with their 20 pounds........
But since we are buying Dollar Store items with US dollars and they are buying Pound Store items with GBPs, it works out to being equal to the SAME thing--that 20 pounds worth of stuff from the pound store is 20 dollars worth of stuff from the dollar store--the main point is: We all can get up to 20 (?crappy?) items with which to build 1 really cool thing!

Also, most of the time retailers don't bother doing a proper currency conversion anyway, and simply switch $ for £... So while something that costs $15 SHOULD cost £10... It doesn't. It costs £15.

this has been answerd time and time again by the person RUNNING the comp $20 = £20

now a dollar store sells stuff at a dollar so $20 = 20 things

a pound store sells stuff at a pound so £20 = 20 things

nuf said if you ask me . Maybe read the whole thread rather than just bits

There a lot of people in this contest, I cant wait to see the reactors.
Me either, and I can't wait to finally get to the dollar store sometime soon! DarthCalibar are you going to make one too just for the fun of it if you have time? I'm really intrested to see what you would make.

Figures....
Another cool $1 store contest comes up and...

The one ACTUAL $1 store left in my immediate area closed a month ago! it was a tenant in a strip mall that had all but for a grocery store been bought up to renovate for one big ass store...

Only other dollar stores around me are in name only, so guess I'm sitting this contest out... :angry

Re-read the first page for all the details, you can still participate. also remember there is a cap of $3 per item

2. Use only parts bought at a Dollar store. (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc.) or if you live somewhere without dollar stores try to buy things from a grocery store or thrift store. You will be required to post pictures of your receipts from the dollar store or where you purchased your parts.

Yep, I know...

Still the places left in my option I could spend $20 and only buy 2 or 3 items, and those are from a "Dollar" store....

Meaning, not a particular litem for $1 or less but still cheap, and doesn't meet the standards...
