Dollar Store Iron Man Arc Reactor Contest

I think buying more expensive items negates the whole "dollar store" idea. You might just as well call it "The $20 Arc Reactor".

I understand what you mean, I think I'll go ahead and put a $3.00 per item cap. That way if you want to buy something a little more expensive you can, but you can't buy anything outrageous.

you know now I have my broadband back up and all my stop motion stuff done I think I'll put myself down for this too, that's assuming entries are still on?

There was a post saying that you can trow your hat in right up until the dead line. So you are good.

Also someone had asked about progress threads. It is a great idea to document your progress, but wait until the judging is done to make it public. It prevents any kind of, "That guy stole my idea" issues. It is also cool to see what same/similar items and concepts were used in the independent construction.

Count me in please. Looking forward to this.

For my fellow Brits the exchange rate works out as £13.54 with a maximum single spend of £2.03 on a single item.

Unless of course our American cousins will let us have £20 because of inflation over here? :D Worth a shot ;)

I thought we would get £20 budget, as it is equivalent in this case $1 = £1 as the US guys are buying from dollar stores and we are buying from pound stores. Didn't think currency conversion would come into it.

Agreed. Currency exchanges may disagree, but in real life £1 = $1. We pay excessive prices for everything - even pound store merchandise!

I would love to join in! As a delurking newbie I think it's my duty to jump in and make something new for the forum. :D

I'm thinking about doing this, as practice for my next costume. I've never worked with LEDs. Is there a quick reference guide here on using them? My $1 lightsaber entry had one, but it remained encased in a flashlight.

Question:
If I make one that requires a mains power supply to light up... would the power adaptor count as part of the cost limit?

Go to Instructables.com...lots of great tutorials on wiring LEDs and other stuff
