List updated on the first page. I'm going to go ahead and say The contest will officially start on May 25th and end on July 25th.
(You can start now if you want, I'm just saying that's the 2 month timeline. This gives it a couple more weeks for people who might find this thread late...)
Does any pepakura count? Figured I'd better ask early.
I'll have to say no on the pepakura. That takes away from the point of making it with dollar store parts. Sorry!
2. Use only parts bought at a Dollar store. (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc.) or if you live somewhere without dollar stores try to buy things from a grocery store or thrift store. You will be required to post pictures of your receipts from the dollar store or where you purchased your parts.
I'm in too but just to be clear you say Dollar General and Family Dollar are ok. Those 2 stores carry items over $1 and were not allowed in the saber contest. So is it OK to get items from there as long as we still are under the $20 limit for the total price?
I think the key is to stay under 20$USD, or the international equivalent.
Do we have to commit in advance, or can we just secretly build and then pop up on the radar? I'd like to try, but I also wanted to try for the previous contest and reality collided with me rather harshly.

OK, well please disregard my comment in the above post. I guess I was wrong. It happens sometimes, even to the best of us.And as for buying things that cost more than a dollar, that's acceptable, but just remember to stay under the $20.00 limit.
It seems that the intent is that each item stay under $1. I would assume that you can NOT buy a $15 thing just because the store you got it at has the word "dollar" in its name. That is just my idea. We will have to see what the judges have to say.
BTW, my dollar store sells round LED tap lights. Like this:

Just buy one of these for one dollar, stick it on your shirt, and you are done with $19 to spare.![]()
