Dollar Store Iron Man Arc Reactor Contest

These types of contests are the best. Reminds me of some older TV shows like Junkyard Wars, people having limited resources at thier disposal to make something.

Okay, I'm gonna jump in just to aggravate Jodo!!
An opportunity or excuse whichever way ya want to look at it to study up on some of the things elvisgump and Mercury were posting about lighting up LEDs.
I don't know nothing about Ironman or his Arc Reactor but I'm willing to tackle the learning curve.....

.....but first I'm gonna go see some "regular heroes" and hopefully watch them blast into space!!
Always loved that movie "Space Camp" and always wanted to see a shuttle lift off, so I'm glad it's Atlantis I'm going to see, just hope for no scrubs!!
Catch up with ya'll in half a fortnight plus three.

List updated on the first page. I'm going to go ahead and say The contest will officially start on May 25th and end on July 25th.

(You can start now if you want, I'm just saying that's the 2 month timeline. This gives it a couple more weeks for people who might find this thread late...)

Oh oh , me me add me please:)

2. Use only parts bought at a Dollar store. (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc.) or if you live somewhere without dollar stores try to buy things from a grocery store or thrift store. You will be required to post pictures of your receipts from the dollar store or where you purchased your parts.

I'm in too but just to be clear you say Dollar General and Family Dollar are ok. Those 2 stores carry items over $1 and were not allowed in the saber contest. So is it OK to get items from there as long as we still are under the $20 limit for the total price?

All the dollar stores in Canada have items that are over $1, I think that it's just the economy.......

I think the key is to stay under 20$USD, or the international equivalent.

Do we have to commit in advance, or can we just secretly build and then pop up on the radar? I'd like to try, but I also wanted to try for the previous contest and reality collided with me rather harshly.

You can enter at any time between now and July 25th, so if that means July 23rd or 24th for you that is absolutely fine! It's just nice to have a list in advance so other potential contenders can see what they're up against.

And as for buying things that cost more than a dollar, that's acceptable, but just remember to stay under the $20.00 limit.
EDIT: $3.00 item cap decided.

It seems that the intent is that each item stay under $1. I would assume that you can NOT buy a $15 thing just because the store you got it at has the word "dollar" in its name. That is just my idea. We will have to see what the judges have to say.

BTW, my dollar store sells round LED tap lights. Like this:

Just buy one of these for one dollar, stick it on your shirt, and you are done with $19 to spare. :)
