Excellent conversion! Very nice paint work as well. Nice crisp lines. Any plans to add the gold trim to it? Also, which Hohner did you use? The all plastic one or the wood one? What was your paint method? Did you lay down a base coat, mask it off and then add the stripe over it?

This looks pretty close, sans paint and tassels... and it's only $5.99.
Tudor TD205 Soprano Renaissance 2-Piece Recorder and more Recorders At Cascio Interstate Music

It's a Tudor TD205 Soprano Recorder, and while the linked image has 0 in stock, other sites such as Amazon seem to have them.

Hey, good call. All plastic, similar to the Hohner AND I like the placement of the metal band better than the Hohner as well. Much closer to the uppermost finger hole like the actual recorder and a great price. Good find!

just ordered one from Groth Music. Seems like a simple, quick project. Then again, they ALL do, huh.

Great find!

Straker Thanks yeah I used the wood one. I masked the tip, gave it a primer coat, then I gave it a light blue coat, then masked it off carefully in a spiral and added the dark blue coat. I sprayed both colors on light card stock, hole punched them and tack glued the dots in place. Added ebay found tassels with craft wire and done.

I don't think I'll do the odd gold bits... there isn't great reference on that on it and it always struck me as odd or some kind of wear/tear or accident. I preferred to stop where i was.

WOO HOO! Arrived today. Looks like a really good match. Can't wait to start painting it! Will use the pics in this thread as a guide.

I've done some research on this recorder lately when trying to get my hands on one to represent Patrick Troughton in my collection. What I found was that the Tudor Soprano Recorder, while a close match, is not the right brand. As you can see in the pic below - thanks to promo pics from "Fury from the Deep" the Tudor logo does not fit the logo on Pat's recorder. However the brand Moeck does. It matches the letter count and the arch of the name on the top piece.

What I have found is that the Moeck Tuju Soprano Barack 223 Recorder matches perfectly the recorder seen in the pics below. However you'd need to get a vintage recorder as the new Moeck logo does not match the one in the pic.

The one I purchased is a light colored wood - much lighter than it appears in the picture. For some reason I couldn't capture it's true color.

Personally, since it seem to match Patrick's FftD recorder so well I do not plan on modding this at all. I like that it can be an exact replica of the FftD recorder. I did however get my hands on a plastic Tudor before I found this one that I will paint at some point to match the PotD's version.

One thing I noticed about the Moeck vs the Tudor is that the Moeck is slightly smaller. Not a big issue really but an interesting one.

Ok, now the pic:

Just wanted to add that I have been wondering if the size difference is due to one being wood and one being plastic. Not sure if that matters or not.

it's a great find. I wonder if the painted recorder might have been plastic and the Fury recorder wood. The color on the painted recorder looks more light than the Fury recorder to me. Also you can see the wood grain on the Fury recorder. Still I like that. Very nice find. I like that the ring on the separation line is brass in color. Matches the painted recorders color picture. Might be a good choice for a paint job regardless.

Great find! Good detective work to find an off-the-shelf item to match a 60's piece. I'll definitely grab one to do an upgrade though I'll have to decide to keep it as a Fury recorder or convert it to a PotD rcorder... hmm.

Thanks guys! It is a tough call as I'd love to paint it but since the Tudor is so close when painted it sort of makes sense to leave this as is.

It is possible like Straker said that the painted recorder could have been plastic anyway. I know they painted/taped the sonic and then stripped it later but it does seem odd that they would have done that for the recorder. At least it seems odd to me. Unless the paint job just really didn't hold up at all, but still.

It seems possible to me that the paint just wasn't sticking to the recorder. Plastic would be a good reason for that back then necessitating the use of a wooden recorder for a replacement later. Hell, just for cost sake I'd use the Tudor for the painted one since the paint would cover the logo on the thing anyway. Only thing you'd see the color on at that point is the moth piece and who cares about that, lol.

Exactly my thought. Plus the Tuber was only a couple of bucks so I'm not too concerned about it. I'm just really glad that this is my first Troughton representative piece in my collection and it's perfect!

Here's an update to my Troughton recorders. I left the Moeck unpainted to match the "Fury from the Deep" recorder and then painted my extra Tudor to match "Power of the Daleks", well more like "Web of Fear" or "The Invasion" since there is now weathering on the paint.

There of course is another variation. In the 1st Dr Who annual for the 2nd Dr. There is a few publicity photos of Troughton. Here has a plain wooden version with red tassels. I suspect that this was later painted and green tassels were added.
