Doctor Who - Mcgann Tardis console.

Gone but not forgotten.
For those signed up for the sonic screwdriver run, I'm sure you know that Bob, (manofsteel25) is a fanatic for Doctor Who (you'll see I didn't write "fan"). His love for the show recently won him a contest on KTEH to host the "How Who Are You" marathon. When Bob showed up - the station had no idea what they wanted him to do - so Bob took matters into his own hands and and after a few phone calls he put together some fantastic segments for insertion between episodes. His biggest achievement has to be that he located the screen used tardis console operated by Paul Mcgann in the made for tv Doctor Who movie - after speaking to the owner (you can't help but like Bob when you meet him) he got permission to film the prop so all the fans can see it. Bob turned what was going to be a nervous fan introducing episodes from a chair into a tour of the world of Doctor Who.

Here is his segment - (good work Bobby boy)

Cool clip, but also depressing...

whoever was charged with storing it/keeping it LOST THE ORIGINAL TIME ROTOR!!! :eek:angry

The guy who owns it now did an admirable job of building a replacement, but I saw no indication that the center columns actually rise and fall as they did in the original. Most depressing, that was one of the most awesome features of that TARDIS console. :(

He mentioned this to me a while back, cool to see it on video. I think he did a great job of restoring it.

Bob feels your pain - believe me. But wouldn't you say it's nice to know the thing is still around and being taken care of now?

It's great to see that prop still around, thanks for sharing. That was the first Doctor Who movie I ever saw when I was in junior high, and it started off a long Doctor Who prop building binge.

I wonder if Paul would ever be interested in showing the console at Comic-Con? I know the organizers, they mentioned they were looking for some interesting vintage pieces to show and he'd probably have a crowd 20 deep.

Thanks for the intro and the post JetBeetle!

That Console was a thing of beauty. Yes it's shame the original time rotor didn't survive but considering how I heard stories it had been destroyed after all, and how much these prop houses don't always care for their stuff after a production wraps I'm pleased to see it still standing in the condition it's in now.

I doubt Paul would be open to showing off the console at SDCC. He doesn't even bring the Dalek to Gallifrey One for fear of inadvertent damage in transport etc. Add the high transposrt costs for such a bulky heavy item and the fact it's one of a kind screen used and I think the chances are slim. I'll run the idea by him though just in case. I assume this would be featured somewhere on the dealer's floor?

Well whether SDCC works or not, I still say that console is about the most awesome thing I've ever seen, and this is from a guy who spends his weekends tinkering on Herbies/Knight Riders/Batmobiles/Back to the Future Time Machines with the rest of the gang from Star Car Central.

That was cool! It's always nice to see screen used items find a good home. Oh, and consider yourselves lucky that your local PBS affiliate airs Who - the last time mine did, pagers were all the rage. :unsure

If you're married - basement or garage.
If you're single - where the dinner table used to be.
If you're really skilled at building things - build a enclosed porch or outbuilding to house it.

terrasolo- Thanks. All 8 segments are up online at the links provided. Though if you've been watching them on KTEH I don't know how they've been aired since they've played around with the schedule beyond what I was told would be the plan back in August. They may have one or two left to show this upcoming Sunday.

Yeah knowing where to put a TARDIS or Console is half the thing when building one if you don't have a basement, shed or roomy house to put it in!

You can always go to a custom furnature maker with plans and try to design it to be able to be broken down and stored so that when you can't have it out you can have it put away.

We took some additional photos and video on Tuesday

And we did take a little video for my other friend's blog:
